Hello Guys, I am curious and at the same time I am confused to too. What I want to ask is which is better blog or hosted site in my case. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Doing some calculations for Blog = No cost Doing some calculations for Site = Domain 3$ and Hosting 7$ =10$/month. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Pros and Cons: Blog Pros = No cost so no risk -- Blog Cons = Less Control Site Pros = Good control over site and statistics also helps -- Site Cons = Navigation is difficult. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Now what is important to me is your suggesstion and answer to my these two questions please. First: How to get more control over blog, I have seen many superb blogs like blog4bloggers and its superb so how to do like that and also how people can present blog on sites I mean on .com. Second: How can I navigate if I update it daily that means around 30/month and 365/year. So what is the best way to do it, arrange it , show it. Is there any software also that can help me but in the starting I orefer doing al that manually to learn more and how to put ads between the content in blog I know I have asked several questions and I thankyou for answering it and I am sure this post will help many of the newbie's too. So please go ahead and answer if you know Thanks.
While you have described some of the differences between hosting a site on a free blogging service and hosting elsewhere, you are not ready to ask the question. You are also missing one of the cons of blogging sites -- greater risk of the site being closed down if someone claims you are a spammer, or if the site's monitoring software flags you as a spammer. This is an increasing problem at Google's Blogger. Your assumption that blogging sites are harder to customize is not entirely correct. The degree of control you have over the look and feel of your site varies from one hosting environment to another. Some are highly flexible, some not at all. While blogs can be more, they are essentially linear sites. Posts are listed one after the other in the main page. Old posts are normally accessed through archive links. This reflects their origin as a form of online diary written by a single person. To be certain, some people have morphed them into greater things, but managing more complex blog sites is not always an easy task. If you are looking at a site where you want to gather articles in topic areas, but still have the newest additions listed on the entrance page, then you will probably be looking at developed a system at a location where you have full control over the look and feel of the site. The navigational system may be more complex from the site maintainer's perspective, but it may be easier for the user because like material is gathered in like locations. I would start with an idea for a site and then look for a system that makes that easier to deliver. I have tried going the other way -- for specific reasons -- and I have discovered that if you try to do something more than the system is really designed for -- even if it tries to offer that capability -- you will become frustrated with the site and faced with a greater challenge migrating to something you should have implemented from the beginning. In summary - develop a site concept and budget - white board a site layout that supports the concept - find software which supports the site structure - find hosting environment which supports the software within the budget
As clancey said, you can have a blog on it's own domain - I use wordpress. You do have options to categorise your posts to make it more easy / intuitive for the viewers. Beyond that, the real deciding factor is what you want to do with your site.
BLOG! My opinion is a little jaded since I blog full-time, but I think it is the best medium for combining advertisting and content into one package.
Well. You can get a 1 year hosting with free domain for 22 $ to 50$ these days (read the guide to hosting) and have much more control on your site, control more the placements of the ads, etc..
Thanks, I'm actually redirecting all the traffic next Monday to a new blog called Investing Pulse, which will feature a light beige background with black text.
The better question is: Is this a part-time thing that you plan to toss out the window as soon as it proves a failure, or is this a real investment thing where you plan to work on it and build it up for years to come? If it's the latter, get a real site and forego blogging. If it's the former, go with Blogger and save yourself the money and hassle of real webmaster work.
blog! why? because search engines told me so. see.. site is static. blog gets updated faster then sites and so they gets better ranking in search engines then sites. But blogs are for someone who can keep up, like i said you have to update it regularly. and blog can be costly if you wish to host it on your own and not free ones like blogger or wordpress. now why would u want to do that. because that gives u more freedom, more professional look (u have your own domain so it shows ur seriousness) and like said above - more reliability, blogger is way slow and there are cases of blogs being deleted every now and then(i take backup every couple of days) blogging platform like wordpress and blogger have their own limitations but u can modify them if u have some html knowledge. I had no problem changing mine because of my computer background but even if u don't know much there are tricks available that can be implemented easily. cost wise no difference between site and blog. time and effort - blog needs more. am i missing something here?
Blogger tends to get indexed more quickly because it is owned by Google. Some people use to their advantage by including links to their actual sites in their Blogger blog. However, other types of sites can be indexed with great frequency and come out the so-called, search engine sandbox very rapidly. The more dynamic the site, the more frequently it will ultimately be indexed. Combine that with the ability to inform Google of when specific pages have been added to your site, and you can really hurry up indexing of new content. These tools are not specific to blogs. They can be used elsewhere. I agree, there can be no differemnce in cost between blogs and otehr ypes of sites. Everything goes from just your time to hundreds of dollars per month. However, it is simply not true that blogs take more work. The amount of time and effort needed to maintain a site depends entirely on the site. Technology sites like Anandtech and news sites like The Register take a lot of time and energy. By contrast, many corporate websites take nominal effort to maintain. Some bloggers are passionate and others, like me, are inconsistent. The time required, like most of the things discussed in their thread, all come back to what you want to do and how much you are willing to spend. Everything else flows from there.
If you are serious about making money, do not take chances...need to invest I went from free host -> shared host -> Virtual server -> soon to dedicated host... Why? simple launching too many sites in 2 years period... nowdays you can get virtual private unlimited domains for less than $250 yearly, that's not too much... I'm using slhost.com, sold accounts to my friends and the host is at not cost for me and more important I have full control
My blogs make 10 times as much as my sites -- even my sites that get updated daily. I use FeedBurner to track my RSS feeds read and people tend to come back more to my blogs after an update than my sites. I am converting all my sites to Wordpress (blogging software) but I am changing the interface so it doesn't feel like a blog. This way they get a great site interface (RSS feeds) and I get a great CMS so I don't have to mess with HTML anymore!
You have to know what is blog first because what you describe, give pros and cons are not quite correct. Blog = Web Log so blog is not different from website, but you have the choices to host on free or rent hosting. There are a lot of blog software. All you need is making a nice template. Then you just install blog software and template then just create content. If you don't use blog software, there are a lot of CMS software to choose also.
I am very serious about adsense and m looking for long term, I mean for years. I am 18 years old and I am very enthusiastic to start adsense site in June after my exams. I have learned lot from all the post and I thank you all for helping me sincerely, this is a great place, I am impressed. After reading everybody views, I think its better to start a blog first for quick start to see how this work and how to do it better and soon with in 3 months launch a blog site hosted for dollars using any good blog software. What's the suggesstions about this approach. And I would like to know these things curiously about people who replied. Date Started Adsense: How much Current Free Hosted Blogs: How much Current Rent Hosted Blog: How much Current Sites: How much Current Total Earning: When made first hundred: Promtion Tech: Thanks Alot for each and everything, Addies
https://www.hostmysite.com/hosting/blog/ HostMySite.com offers blog hosting for $45 a year with a domain name and e-mail included. You would be using WordPress and it is very easy to upload new themes and such. Personally, I have a dedicated box that I use for client sites, so I host my blogs and personal sites off of it. If my own dedicated box was not an option, I'd look toward HostMySite.com to start off. Brian
I run a number of Blogs and a number of regular web sites with static HTML. I am finding that my blogs never do as well in the SERPs as my HTML sites. Perhaps the search engines are giving preference over to traditional sites seeing as millions of blogs are clogging up their indexes. Just my experience but I would go for the traditional hosting and web site model.
Hmm... I think it all depends on the perspective from which you start, if you think you are dedicated to it then go for site and if thinking that its just for month then blog is the place. Although a good start in my view is a Blog and working on 2-5 blogs from start will teach you many things and by the same time you can earn in three figure.
