Blog or Forum?

I really love Forums, i havent touched a blog yet. I just want to know what you guys think?

From a benefit and ease of implementation standpoint, I think Blogs blow forums out of the water.

 

I think forums win hands down. Probably a bit biased here cause I haven't really done much blogging. User participation is key to a good forum. Get some good members and you are on your way.

 

Is the question what is the best to add to your existing site or just the best to operate in general?

 

i prefer blog because it is easy to use and specfic, for forum we need huge members to post.

 

Blogs are probably easier to promote and have better advertising CTRs. They do two different jobs though, so it's whatever fits your need.

 

Forums reach a critical mass then do well (though they die through lack of moderation, or lack of bandwidth). Until that critical mass they are difficult to market. After the critical mass you need to continue purchasing bandwidth and spend time moderating the forums.

Blogs are easy to start and market. They can fit a variety of purposes and can help make you a authority on a subject. Blogs can also be used to promote websites that its hard to get normal link love for.

Forums will likely cost more to start and will take longer to make a profit.

Yeah, but not for my existing site, i will use it for my new site(s).

But if the forum goes well established, then i would love to have a forum too

Forums are harder to promote IMO

 

Chetan:- Yeah Indeed, in blog just you can start threads no one cant. And so in blog no one cant get help. Forum is for getting help, and Blog is for getting informed about something, or just knowing about someone. I go with forum

 

Now it is even more confusing...you seem to be talking about what type of site you would want to visit?

 

I would prefer to visit Forums like DP . I have neither visited a blog nor i have used it on my website.

 

You are missing out...A lot of blogs are basically a condensed version of the advice you get on DP without all the noise.

Generally if you want the latest info you can get an easier to read or understand version on some of the good blogs whereas a forum may have so many useless comments you could spend all day and not get it.

 

I prefer forums.

 

Forums have the advantage when looking for information, you can ask questions and get quick replies, somthing you can't do with a blog.

Blogs. I prefer to handle the content all by myself.
