Going to set up a blog and after reading many articles it seems the best way for seo value is to set up subfolder so www.example.com/blog

The other way is the sub domain method www.blog.example.com

So little bit confused why some rally big names in our travel niche are using the sub domain method, is it because they are getting links from a separate site or because there brands are so big anyway?

    Many Thanks

Ps If we went down the sub domain route blogger or wordpress?

Large name brand sites like to use sub domains to separate out different parts of their site. However, it really doesn't matter which method you pick if you've got a small site and you don't expect to expand your blog to several different blogs on niche topics. If you expect to really get big you might want to consider blog.example.com so you can have sub folders on that domain for different niches.

There is not only one right way, depends what you want to achive. Imagine them as two separate websites. if you wanna give a strength to main site, then use example .com/blog

I would advise to use sub folders for adding blog on your website...

The main reason for this is, Google prefers to highlight results from main domain and not from sub domains. This is why I prefer to add new section on my website in sub-folder.
