You could get hosting for one year for under $100.00. I use the hostgator reseller plan which is around 32.95 / month (I also host sites for other business and friends), and for $9.95 a month you can get a setup where you have unlimited domains. Look around and you can probably even get hosting cheaper by asking folks here who they use or even find a coupon to save you a couple of bucks. I am not in your shoes, but if your income is more than what the cost of hosting is then it is well worth it. If you are running a business, then it is a write off.
WordPress is free to download plus they offer a directory of templates and plugins which are also free to use. I currently host one site with Cyberwurx: cyberwurx.com (sorry I can't use live links yet) which gives me 500 mb of disk space and 10g of transfer per month for $6.25 per month. I'm also looking into Linksky: linksky.com for another which has similar packages at similar prices but more perks. As the money masters all say: In order to make money you have to invest money. Hope it works out
I’m starting of today. First have to see what I’m going to use for the physical blog, WP or joomla. Then build the template to resemble the one I have in www.amar-ela.blogspot.com and finally will look for the best hosting solution.
Emporer, have you checked out asmallorange.com? They have different hosting packages for really good rates. I just switched to them after hearing good things about them in this forum and I have been really happy.
Thanks MorgansMom but I Godady’s Economy plan will have to do. It seams to be very cheap and they say that the domain name will only cost $1.99.
Really think twice about GoDaddy! Many people consider them to be extortionists. Search for threads on them here.
I´m starting to think that I should of gone with a host that offered worpress pre installed. Well to late now, next time i´ll try one of the host publicised over at wordpress.com.
I have a somewhat silly question. Is it possible to backup your blog as you edit it. I'm pretty sure the blogger folks don't have exclusivicity to the template code. Or do they? hmmmmmmm..Just "axin" as they say here in the South.
SFOD_D223: Not sure exactly what you're after, but wordpress can import your blogger blogs either through login to blogger or via RSS.
emily robbins gives a great example of why you should host your own blog at emilyrobbins.com/how-to-blog/typepad-is-essentially-holding-my-old-url-hostage-by-refusing-to-set-up-301-permanent-redirects-to-my-new-blog-location-345.htm (I can't post links yet.)
Okay, this is really interesting to me. I just started a couple blogs. One hosted on my own server with its own domain, one hosted at blogspot. Both less than a week old. Both were set to be included in the blog search or whatever that option was. Anyway, I was quite surprised to see traffic coming from a google blog search...this was to my blogger site hosted on my own domain. (after seeing this possible effect, I will probably make companion blogs for most of my domain names. I seems like an easy way to get some related blog search traffic. The blogspot blog has not generated any google traffic yet, but it is only 3 days old.
Perhaps you could have a summary on a Blogger blog, and a link to the full text at your actual blog on your own? That would take advantage of any perks Blogger blogs get, and the ability to customise your blog to make it look more unique than the templates on Blogger.
Hey, sometimes you gotta crack some some shells to make a good plate of scrambled eggs. Go for it, at least on a test run.
