I am going to be running my first blog contest this week, most likely Friday, and am collecting tips and tricks on how to make it a decent contest.

When was the last time you ran a contest on your blog? and how did it go?

I haven't, but my blog doesn't support that sort of thing. I'll be starting a new one soon thought that might...

I'm interested to hear other responses.

I've no experience in creating contests but seen many contests...what u need in the contest is that u get much more benefit than the prize money

example..if u do a contest where u ask all people to link to your blog from any of their pages....and make it 2 months contest..and pay $$to any one of them..then u'll get max backlinks to your site....and pay the amount as prize money..there have goals in mind what u need back before u give prize,,,,,after u get subsequent resoponse..and achieve the goal then only conclude the contest..or defer it...

We have just run our first contest - "Write a review and Win an iPhone"

It appears to be going well. We have already had 12 people email to say they will enter even though the post has only be live since this morning.

You can find out more here: http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/blog/?p=467

I've got one running right now that is going well so far.

    Check it out here!

I'm thinking it will probably give me about 50 good solid backlinks and the traffic has been decent so far.

I'll probably be doing a contest each month from here on out as it's a very easy way to bring in attention.

If you're prize is big you can ask for backlinks or reviews, but if it's small make it simple like post a comment

Thanxs for the replies, guys. As my blog is new, i wont be doing the review thing just yet. I might do that in an upcoming contest, but for my first one, i will make it nice and easy.

My blog contest idea is a PHOTO CAPTION CONTEST. I will post a photo and those who want to join the contest, all they have to do is provide a funny or witty caption to the photo. The winner will be picked randomly through a random number generator and announced on the blog the following week. As my blog is a vegetarian lifestyle blog, the prize below is a good fit.

The prize: One Year Subscription to Vegetarian Times Magazine

What do you think of the idea so far?

Should the winner be drawn at random or should readers vote on the best caption?

You know i was thinking the same thing. Maybe i'll let people vote for the best one or the funniest one. Yes, sounds good.

I think if you make your entrants vote for the best one on their blogs, than you could gain more exposure and linkbacks. So like say, post your favorites on your blog and only those that entered can vote of course.

Some additions - They would put a caption on that image and post it in their blog. And to the footer of the image or any where in those post they link to your blog or any of your post.

Prize is good according to theme of your post but most bloggers do not need subscriptions or anything...u may provide cash via paypal.....or allow blogegsr to choose b/w 5-6 diff themed magazines....not only vegetarian but a tech blogegr would like a tech magazine......
