I have a blog on one of my sites and dont know whether to make the links nofollow. I dont mind people posting a link if it is relevant, but I dont want to attract people who abuse it.

    What should I do?

    make comment links nofollow
that keeps your neighborhood clean and under your direct control
link regular links in your blog articles to those sites worthy to get a full link

Keeping the links with nofollow will mean next to no comments at least for new blogs. You can (or hire someone who can, or find a plug-in that does this) accept the few first comments from everyone manually (without making this public to them, or tell them that you publish all their comments manually). If you see the user doesn't link to crap, then you can set an "auto-post" his comments rule.

If you are using wordpress, you can set this by configuring your blog comment under settings tab.

Set to nofollow, seriously, how valuable are those comments to you anyway?

Or if you want to compromise, have it on "follow" for a while, and if they're abused, then set to nofollow. If you're using wordpress I highly recommend the WP-spamfree plugin, kept my blog clean of spam ever since I installed it.

If it's brand new, try to make it do follow so random people will actually leave comments.

Yeah.. You might want to make your comments nofollow..but I have to warn you, this will turn commentators away because most of them like dofollow blogs because they want some page rank. If you don't mind sharing some of your page rank juice, then just add a plugin which allows you to moderate comments for abusive comments or comments that don't appeal to your liking :)

I would make them follow, and moderate the comments that come in. If the comment is relevant to your article, allow it. If not, don't. It's that simple.

I would recommend you to use NoFollow. Otherwise you will receive too much unrelated / spam messages.
Moderating comments is a big time waster and DoFollow attracts a lot of crappy comments.

If you really aim to be popular in the long run, and are currently a newbie, make it do follow.

Once you've got an established readership, make it no follow.

Don't worry about it because Google has solve this problem a long time ago. Google notice that that some webmaster are just using the comment system spam others and that is the reason why the latter work with lots of web developers to put on the the Nofollow tag.

If you haven't' remove the nofollow tag then chances your site is a nofollow.

always make the comment links nofollow to stay away from nonsense spam. It is the content of your blog that attracts discussions.

There are benefits to removing a nofollow attribute tag from your blogger site. I think it encourages more people to comment at your Blog posts, therefore creating a larger following and more traffic. There are also heaps of websites that are publishing lists of sites that have removed the nofollow tag.
