Hi, i was wondering what the purpose of the E-mail (Required) field is on my wordpress blog. What gains do i as a webmaster get from this?
You see i am trying to encourage commenting so i am thinking of getting rid of this as a required field.

It also helps to give you something to block along with the IP. I use it mainly to contact my top commentors. When you have a good quality commenter you want to keep them, so emailing them expressing appreciation is a good thing.

Im quite impressed by that, that someone would appreciate a quality commentor enough to actually let them know.

Thank you Pipes. The thing is that when you have a new blog it is very hard to find that fan base, so when you get a solid person, why not try to keep them?
