Spamdesking (blog commenting) seems like, has been put to a bilateral end, which I guess is a good thing. This likely happened between the collaboration of Google and Wordpress. As soon as you upgrade to Wordpress 3.1 latest release, all comments "hrefs" are automatically given a "rel" of "nofollow". (People who know what a "nofollow" meta tag is, they'll know what it means!) I have seen this happening quite a lot of times so wanted to let you know that doing so is pretty useless know for link building. Cheers and lets come up with better way of ranking up!
The reality is that they are wasting their time. Google has algorithmic ways of discovering these and subsequently devaluing these types of links.
Blog commenting for link building has been pretty useless for a while. Its very time consuming with little to no payout. Being a guest blogger on a high pr blog is the better way to go.
I consider a blog commenting as a good way to get some traffic. This is a main reason why I use it along with forum posting. What is really useless as for me - is an extra care about Google PR.
I think if you use forum backlinking along w/ other types of backlinking - it does work. However, it always takes a long frieken time to rank your site high.
I do block commenting not for dofollow back links. I also want nofollow back links for getting traffic
Depends on how you're doing it. Blasting away @ your main site with automated tools is pretty useless. But leaving legitimate comments on quality (and mostly moderated) blogs still works just fine as long as you're not wasting your time with nofollow blogs. (Unless you're looking to diversify or drive some traffic from niche-related blogs.)
There are only 10% of blogs that don't put "nofollow" attribute to your post. But blogposting is still worthy if done by experienced blogcommenter.
You have to develop great content. Once that happens, ppl will come back looking for more. Also - use social networking more - instead of trying to get traffic from Google.
