Blog Commenting Potential

I just read a recent thread where someone said they went from PR0, which is what I am, to PR3 from blog commenting alone. They used a smart strategy that involved some time, although not too bad, but insisted that it was blog commenting that got them the boost in page rank.

I'm curious if anyone else had that same experience?

The reason I'm asking is that I'd like to stick with blog commenting as opposed to article writing if at all possible for a variety reasons to get my backlinks. But I don't want to focus on blog commenting if it's really not that worthwhile.

    Any advice is much appreciated...

The guy you are talking about what using commenting on blogs with a "Do Follow" comment policy. Most blogs do not fit into this category. The ones that do often get tons of spam and therefore change their policy or shut down.

There are a small handful of blogs that allow do follow comments, but the list of the few that are worth your time changes from month to month. There is no one list you are going to find, most of the lists have a few good blogs listed mixed in with lots of crap.

You will have to do some SEO research to figure out how to determine a good dofollow from a worthless one. One you understand this distinction, you will have a viable strategy, and PR3 will be no problem. What's better once you understand the distinction, you will be well on your way to bigger and better strategies.

This sounds extremely sound and sensible, but I have never seen good SEO research of blog commenting. Most of it is from guys who believe "the more links the better". How can I find the guys who really know what in the heck they're talking about and emphasize quality over quanity, etc.?

Id be careful. A lot of blog commenting strategies are spam. Ive seen people talk about an XYZ blog and then you go look at it and see 500 comments of total garbage. I cant see that being a good long term strategy.

No, I agree that won't work. This guy got top commentator on several blogs which gave him exclusive access to many of the pages so he didn't have to share page rank.

Blog commenting on dofollow blogs just wastage of time.

Increasing PR is certainly possible through commenting. My blog went from PR0 to PR2 in about 2 months just by making blog comment and few social bookmarks.

In terms of time and effort, I would say that blog commenting is easier, especially when you have a list of dofollow blogs.
However, submitting articles can get better and probably more permanent links.
I think johnchow is still a dofollow. Those blogs with commentluv are dofollow. Most wordpress and blogspots are no follow. You can hunt for certain dofollow blogs through followlist
It is very troublesome to get blogspot dofollow. I have to manually edit the html to get rid of the nofollow tag.

DO a search for DO Follow plugin for Firefox and then also get yourself a good list. I would also recommend you look at using something like AMA to spin and submit.

It is possible if you target the right amount of blogs ... The most crucial point to making your blog rank high, is commenting on specific blogs that are catered to your niche. Google will see that it's relevant content and be in your favor.

Thx for the list. I've had pretty good luck by just searching on "dofollow blog" + niche words.

I also looked at niche words + "keywordluv" with some success as well.

Both of these are painful, but if you put the effort in, you can find a few decent blogs.
