    And blog comments can't?

It all depends on the number of people who will see your forum signature / blog comment. It's true that finding a relevant forum with high enough members is probably easier than finding a blog with such a high number of people reading through comments but that doesn't mean it's true in all cases.

Take lifehacker.com for instance. If you manage to post your link in one of the first 3 or 4 comments of a popular post then you're almost guaranteed a whole bunch of visitors - most likely far more than any average forum would give you.

Dude - get your facts right!!!

Forum posting is done for marketing and not for SEO purpose. The backlinks weigh like a fine particle of sand.

Go for Do-follow blog commenting if you want some off-page site optimization.

But, before doing it, I think you should get your facts right.

Forum threads get indexed and then de-indexed all of the time and so you can't always rely on them. A problem with forum marketing is that non-webmaster forums tend to not like guys leaving links with anchor text and so it has become difficult and time consuming to take full advantage. With blog commenting, you can do this with speed and you have all the niches under the sun to choose from. A good idea is to find a blog that has recent comments added, which will allow you to pick up links for all new pages that get scanned on the blog in question. Just keep finding new blogs each day so the links continue to mount.:D

Dude - If you want to get things done professionally, then change your mind set. Be professional only to get some quantum results over here. I don't see a person here on digital point putting his site in sig for backlinks.

Are you putting your sales thread on signature for backlinks? No, right!! Only using the space to market your product. That's what SEOs do when they mean by forum posting.

Obviously a forum will have different opinions.

But here's something to consider. Forum sigs can help your SEO efforts but you will not be ranking for a term like NEW CARS with a few forum sigs. But if you have use some long tail search terms, you post in a forum that contains on topic posts, forums sigs will help you rank.

Some people might disagree but you need to research search terms and use that to your advantage.

Just for the record, you can succeed with forum posting. You just need to have 20+ posts on each forum to make sure you stay indexed. Blog commenting seems a lot easier though. Personally, I do both now with good results.

Do-follow blog commenting helps a lot in building links. But all the comments should be approved by moderators.

I think blog comments and forum posting play equal role for gaining links. That is true that blog comments are not so approved fast but you need to make some genuine comments regarding the post and choose such blogs which are good for commenting and have some high PR. That will be most useful.

I prefer both - Signature links can bring in extra traffic if you are an active member with thousands of posts and blog comments can increase back links.

I don't think one is better than the other, both help. I would focus on whichever is most closely related to the topic being linked to.
