Blog Commenting for SEO

When you comment on a blog post you have three categories to fill out.

    • Name
    • Email
    • Website

By entering your website, does google pick this up as a backlink, or do you need to literally place your website's link in the comment/text? How much attention does google pay to this and is posting in forums a more effective way to improve a website's page rank?

Most blogs (Wordpress based) will use the name as the anchor text for the link above the comment, check out the comments on any wordpress blog and you'll see it's done and to be honest, I can't see it making much difference if the backlink is in the comment or if it's the name of the commenter, there wouldn't be much point in building 2 links from the same page to your website, you'd be better off targeting 2 different pages on your site from the same backlink. :)

In my opinion both are same in value, as far as the backlink weight is concerned. Avoid spamm blog comment always. But if you want to build organic link, try to seek some theme related website and contact to its owner.

No, blog commenting works if you can put it in the right place and in a right way. It is the same if you put anchortext in the name or in the comment body. The main thing is to avoid spamming and make it real and informative.

Exactly, direct traffic and networking with other blog owners.

Blog comments are not really a link building tactic.

Blog commenting is a good way to show your website to online audience. Most of the blogs allow nofolow comments which have no effect on ranking of linked website, but you can generate massive traffic if that blog have some Good traffic and you have written well the comment.

By place link in Name box and also in comment is simply looks like Spam. Many moderator has specified in blog that use Html or keyword etc...If you palce link by both the way say the blog with keyword luv, you have paced your keyword with link and also place link in your comment then moderator will never approve your comment coz its considered as one type of spamming.

So always do genuine comment. Placed only Name where nothing is mentioned, Placed keyword if keyword luv is mentioned and palced HTML where its allow to placed.

Blog comments have always worked for me. Just avoid constantly posting "great article, keep blogging". Try to add something to the conversation

lot of blog owners would consider the anchor text in the name field as spam and therefore would not approve such comments. `cheap car insurance`or `play bingo online`are not names! if you want to comment on good quality blog, it is suggested that you use your name or a real name for the name field. you will not get the benefit of an anchor text but you will atleast be having the comment approved. a backlink without an anchor text is better than no backlinks. some blog owners on the other hand would approve any comment left on their blogs. so use your due diligence while commenting

Blog comments are the lifeblood of a blog. Comments are what separates a blog from a static website. As the conversation builds, so will your relationship with your readers and so will your blog's popularity. Encourage your readers to join in the discussion and leave comments and respond promptly to the comments left by your readers to make them feel valued

I think mostly links that are given in the content are no follow..
when we put a link at the website column then it make your name as a hyper text...
its the more value in Google then that is given in the content...

As you can see, there are a variety of answers and one thing remains certain, Google just doesn't want us to know what they are doing. It makes sense, the more we know about Google, the more people will try to manipulate it for the wrong reasons.
