Blog commenting anchor text, etiquette

I here alot around here that leaving anchor text in the name of a blog comment is bad etiquette.

So I wonder what is the value of getting a bunch links to my site with the anchor saying "Stevo" It seems kind of pointless.

What if I put this in the name field: Keyword | Stevo
would this still be considered bad commenting etiquette.
Assuming I make a quality comment and not spam.

Would this be acceptable and would it also help in serps.

    Thanks

    Hello,

Yes it would still help your website even if the link's anchor is "Stevo". If the blog that you're commenting on is "on-topic" then Google will know to give you some (not the same thing as if the anchor text was the keyword targeted) juice for the link.

I usually would use something like Andy @ Website Name

It may not be exactly the keywords I would like but it's better than nothing

If you put you keyword in your domain name, there's nothing wrong with using that as your anchor text name, because that is your name. Of course there's limits to this because "buy cheap viagra online now" would be annoying even if it was your domain name.

If you search this forum for blogs people post and say "leave your comment here on my blog" that's a place where it probably acceptable to use your keyword in the name because very likely the person hosting that is very likely doing the same thing already.

Also just look and see what other people posting comments on the blog have done. Some blog owners have no problem with keyword anchor text because they just want the comments or don't care. It's kind of a case by case with different blogs. It seems people who have a personal blog or their name in the blog URL are more likely to NOT appreciate your keywords.

you have to ask yourself what is better... 100 links with your username or 25 links with your keyword. Both involve making 100 comments. The 75 difference is blog owners not accepting the site as spam.

If you are truly wanting to get better links, make sure your posts are TOP NOTCH quality that offer valuable content to the blog you are posting on. If they do, chances are you'll get most of the links you want no matter what links you can toss in.

When I get a comment from someone who use just a keyword for their name, I delete it. No one is named buy viagra.

What do I approve? Thoughtful comments that add to the post and have a real name. I'll also approve posts that use a first name combined with a keyword like Mike Aquarium, Mike Mustang, Mustang Mike, Debt Relief Bob. I might even take someone who decided to use the name Mike Viagra.

I'd stick with the keyword anchor text, that is a lot more valuable than "stevo" in the link.

What I do, if applicable is leave the name of my site which is short and sweet as the 'name'.

If it is for my long winded site I leave my full name so that maybe my name will be associate with with the link.

If there is a conversation going on in comments and I have a page from my site that I feel adds to the discussion I anchor text the title or something similar, relevant and keyword like.
