I am confused about how best to use a blog comment for promotion. I'm motivated primarily as an attempt to get some of the link juice to get my articles to rank. I realize some think that blog commenting should be for the purpose of exposure from that page's existing users not SE link juice. I'm thinking that the best way to make (relevant and manual) blog comments is to would to either: 1) enter something witty containing my keywords in the name (of the commenter) and enter the article URL. Or 2) enter my real name in the name field and put in a manual signature at the bottom of the comment. The URL field would be blank. Number two might also do better with something other than webmaster. Both would be somewhat spammy. Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Blog comments don't give much direct link juice because they almost all use nofollow. You get good SEO links indirectly when people see your website after following the link and then decide to put a real link on their own website. I explained more about that in my recent blog post: Promoting Yourself with Blog Comments Using keywords as the name will lead to a lot more rejections.
