Blog, best to be separate from our website?

    Hi all,

I'd appreciated your input, thoughts and suggestions to the following.

We are just about to launch our corporate blog and I am trying to decide if it is best to have the blog as part of our website or separate.

In terms of link backs from the blog to our main website is it best that it is external from the website or doesn't it matter?

    Thanks in advance,

    H.

Is it better to have a corporate blog within the main website or separate.

Are there are particular benefits of each approach?

    Thanks.

I'd advise you to start blog on separate domain to build community, promote your brand and build quality links for major website.

I think the main site would be helped better with rankings if blog in on a separate domain, or on a subdomain to the least.

If you have something to say on a regular basis then why not include the blog into your site? If you put it in a folder then links to that folder boost your whole site. If you choose to separate it you end up doing double the SEO Work.

Something else to consider is leveraging the use of additional blogs on WordPress.com and/or Blogger because you can then leverage the existing communities.

I never even thought you could do this... I would have thought it would have always been better to keep the two separate. But as internetmarketingiq said you would have to double your SEO so maybe in that case it is better to include your blog on your website.
Although if it is separate the blog wouldn't look like it is there to sell the product, more that it is talking about the product which will give you better rapport. People might be more likely to trust your blog if they don't know you also own the site and in turn more likely to buy the product.

I'd say separate but should prioritize website over blog.

The disadvantage of doing this is you have to SEO both sites but the advantage is it'll be more organized that way.

Either you can make it on a separate domain or use the sub-domain of the main domain to make a blog. :)

Our thinking is to produce regular articles (probably 1 detailed 500 word article a week) and then also other information (so the Blog site is updated at least 2 to 3 times a week).

The idea is a build a rich tapestry of original content that (hopefully) will help with organic search engine listing.

It seems there is no set rule on this, I can see the benefits of both approaches. The idea of having the site on a sub-domain is intriguing as it will reduce the workload re. SEO, which is no bad thing!

Anyone else with any further thoughts?

(Also, would you also submit articles to submission sites as well as placing on our blog?)
