    Hi
    Question for expert bloggers here.
    I noted that bloggers
1)set up their own blog domain site OR
    2) just blog at blog.com or blogger.com OR
    3) do both 1) and 2).
What is the more common strategy and what are advantages of each of above?
Any advice/comments would be much appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards, :D

I personal prefer wordpress blog system it is because the developers support are far better than blogger. More and more plugins & themese are available free to user to grab and use.

Right now even can instant install your blog from your cpanel fantastico login. Very much convenient and hassle free.

(The above statement made based on the assumption you host your own blog instead of using the free hosting account by wordpress.com)

don't you think using Blogger will get you more traffic than having your own site for blogging?

I think you need more work out to bring traffic to your site?

just use blogger for a while to learn the ins and outs of blogging, including all the tricks, seo, submissions, link exchanges, if your blogger site does well then you have basically made money without start up capital.

If you're at all serious about blogging, buy your own domain. You can still use whatever platform you want but have the added security of having control over your domain name.

I lost a blogspot blog I worked on for a year because I was too lazy to ever purchase the domain name. Don't make the same mistake.

Since I've run an ISP since the beginning of time just about, I blog at my own site. Aside from the fact that I already had the infrastructure in place, it has the advantage that no third party has control of my content, my blog address won't be changed at the whim of a third party, and a third party won't be attaching ads to my blog.

You can use blogger.com to CREATE your blog even if you host it at your own site, just check the advanced hosting option and fill in the form with your ftp login and password, the directory to blog to, the URL it maps to, etc. I'm using this and it's working fine. That way the content is on my disk, with my domain, and no third party has a say over the content.

I am playing with WordPress though and may switch over.

    My blog is at :

    http://www.eskimo.com/~nanook/blog

(I would have made this an actual link but this site will not allow).

I do have Google Ads on it, but those I put there, not Blogger.

You'll notices I have a lot of photos on there, many of them large. If I were eating blogspot's disk and bandwidth, at some point they might have an issue. But since I'm eating my own disk space and bandwidth, not a problem. And since I back up my servers, I know my stuff is backed up.

The obvious advantage to blogspot is that it's free, but to me the disadvantages outweigh that advantage.
