blog as a main domain and forum in the subdirectory? or vice versa?

I'm working on a new project that involves forum and a blog to drive traffic to it. So what would u recommend? having a blog under /blog/ directory and forum on the main domain, or vice versa? is there any benefit or disadvantage to that?

It does not matter except for which one you wish to make the main money from. If the forum is you main focus, then that should be you main domain. I always make the main domain the one I want to be the most important part.

If anything I would say the blog on the main address, mostly because you can make blog homepages look good easily where as making forum homepages look good for first impressions is much harder.

People in general are also used to having to navigate to a forum but not away from it, remember once your in a forum it has it's own nav and distracts clicks away from the site's nav.

    My dear Friend

You can keep separate directory for both forum and blog and give a button of blog and forum on your home page. so your URL will be like this

    1) www.domain.com/blog
    2) www.domain.com/forum

You can also create subdomain of like blog.domain.com/ and forum/domain.com/ but google consider this subdomain as different for PR purpose to better choose first one

Cool Mate and Enjoy your day
