Most blogs have a list of either the past few months worth of posts or all of their posts. What do you think it should be, and do you ever dig into the archive of your favorite blogs?

I just did a quick check looking at last months stats, and found 2% of my visitors use the archives. Doesn't seem really worth having, at least for me.

I am relative new to blogging... But what if your old visitors want to find some very old post?

That is the main reason you should have an archive, and I'm all for having at least one page on your site that archives all the content. The thing that gets me though is when blogs show in their sidebar 36 months or more worth of archives. Is that really necessary? I believe in having easy access to recent articles, but what should the cut off date be.

I originally mentioned that only 2% of my visitors use my monthly archives in my sidebar. Half of those visitors only look in the most recent month. I only show the last three months in my sidebar, and am wondering if I should just get rid of the whole monthly archive links all together, and simply replace with a link to a complete archive page.
