    Hi
I'm a freelance writer, and I'm gonna set up a website to try and attract some customers, but what I want to do is have a site, so it has a blog as the homepage, and then also a couple of pages to sell my services on the same site.
Can I do this, or will I have to create a new website for each of them?
    Thanks,
    Simon

As far as you have a comprehensible navigation menu and a well-defined goal, you can play with your site the way that fit your needs.

    So it is possible?
I just want a simple blog layout, wordpress style, and then a little tab at the top saying 'services' or something..
..So basically the blog is my portfolio, then people can buy on the same site?

Yes this is exactly what Wordpress does. You can make posts in WP, but you can also make PAGES.

Just login to WP, and go to Write > Page. Then once you've published your page, just copy its url, and create your button/link.
You've now got a normal looking page, which can have a url like mydomain.com/services/

    :)

Also, in Wordpress you can make a page your homepage instead of having the posts listed as a standard Wordpress homepage would have. Just go to options > reading and change the home to a 'static' page. This is good if you need a more constant home page.

    Cool, thanks.
I reckon I might do something like this (rough sketch). Would I be able to do that? So I have a welcome box, then links to mydomain.com/myblog and mydomain.com/services etc

When you create a new page with Wordpress does it automatically create that page based around your theme?

Can I then find that new page - PAGE2 - in my directory and open it up and alter the code so that it differs from the theme pages?

Mainly I am looking to add an affiliate page to a wordpress theme and I am unsure how to proceed.
