I run a small political/music blog with about 500-600 unique visitors/day. I participate in Amazon affiliates and Adsense. I don't make much from them but there's a steady flow of money. I've been approached to participate in axill.com. All this started me thinking about what the purpose of the advertising was at my site. Making money of course. But how many affiliate programs do I want to particpate in? If I'm in adsense & AA do I want or need to be in another program? Is being in 3 programs somehow devaluing the 2 I'm already in? Or should the rule be the more the better? What does Axill bring to my advertising inventory that I'm not already getting fr. the other 2? Is there such a thing as too much advertising in a non-commercial site like mine? If so, how much is too much? Axill.com says they don't care where I put the ads in my site (I assume they mean the diff. bet. sidebar placement & within-post placement). Right now, I'm using Amazon ads in both sidebar & posts & the same is true for Adsense. How should I approach placement of Axill's ads? I know I've asked a lot of questions & I don't expect answers to every one. But I'd love to see some discussion on a few of them so I can clarify my thinking & decide how to proceed. If there's an existing thread that covers some of this ground I'd appreciate getting a link. My site is at http://www.richardsilverstein.com/ for anyone wishing to take a look. I apologize since the site won't let yet me create hyperlinks.
I belong to about 20 different affiliate programs, but in reality I only actively promote about 3 of them. Because they offer me and my readers exactly what we are all looking for. Think of your readers first, then ask if the newtwork meets your own standards (reporting, payment, options etc) and then worry about placement etc.
