Blocking Vonage, mortgages ads

    Hi,
I was wondering whether its a good idea to block all vonage, mortgage ads? Since YPN targetting is so bad, would it be a good idea to block all ads in order to increase the targetting?

After blocking those certain ads. I see more targetted ads. I guess YPn has the inventory. But some florist.com ads are still appearing. I blocked florist.com but florist.com/floristcom is showing up.
Erm, anyone knows how to block the entire domain?

OK, i blocked the mortgages ads on one of my screensaver sites and its now showing something like ftd.com flower stuff. Will it be a better idea to unblock the mortgages ads since, in my opinion, pays more than flower ads?

It's not that the targeting is so bad, it simply that the categories don't have many advertisers participating in the beta right now. The old overture advertisers have the option to show their ads in the beta and the majority of them have not started participating yet. When there aren't many ads for a specific category you get mortgage and vonage ads. Blocking them wouldn't help get you more relevant ads...the only thing we can do is wait.

Tanoanian, I disagree. It does help.

I blocked the following ads yesterday, at least one of which were on every d@mn page (50 pages) -
    ww*.borrellassociates.com
    ww*.ebay.com
    ww*.florist.com
    ww*.lendingtree.com
    ww*.lowermybills.com
    ww*.nextag.com
    ww*.vonage.com

Now, less than 24 hours later, the ads are much more targeted, no question about it. There ARE more targeted ads available, Yahoo simply chooses not to show them, for whatever reasons. (There are however, some topics, that YPN seems dead stupid about - no conceivable relationship between the subject and the ads served).

ww*.florist.com\florist9 cannot be blocked (gives error). I would guess that it is because of the backslash, instead of the normal slash. Yahoo needs to fix this, or we will undoubtedly get more "unblockable ads".

    My Actions -
    1. Move your 50 lowest CTR pages from AdSense to YPN. This gives the added benefit of raising your Google CTR.
    2. Block the RON (Run Of Network) ads that they bombard you with.
    3. Wait a few days.
    4. Switch the hopelessly untargeted ads to another alternative, such as Chitika. Don't put them back to Google unless you want to lower your site CTR and site EPC.
    5. When YPN provides more tracking channels, they will get more of my pages. No way am I going to make changes that I can't measure - aggregate or combined data does you no good regarding performance optimization.

yes, it does help a bit but there are more ads to come like florist and coco cola ads. I think vonage and mortgages ads do pay more. So i just unblocked them today.

It's all a big game, huh?
    Fun to play, though.

GREAT list Surf Dude - is there a definitive list of YPN crap ^H^H^H RON ads with URL's that can be applied as a filter?

P.S. I actually like YPN - just don't like the RON ads and continue to suggest to 'em that they should give me the ability to turn 'em OFF if I want.

Has anyone successfully blocked a "domain.com\page" ad as mentioned above? My nemesis is ww*.ftd.com/goto. Blocked ftd.com and ww*.ftd.com but I cannot get rid of it!

I unblocked the main mortgage ad, since it's a high payer...... but the vonage ad is horrible, and seemed to appear on 90% of my sites, some multiple times on the same page, so I had to kill that one. I have about 7 ads blocked now.

Also has anyone noticed this about targeting ?

I have found that selecting targeting is worse for most of my sites, if I leave them alone and let the algorithm do it, they get better as the days go by. I have my targeting now only on about 10% of my sites
