Which is better, to blend in ads in content, or to have ads stick out like DP.

It can go either way, persoanlly the ads on DP attract my eye with their colors (changing too) and always make me look up there, what do you guys think?

Blend in Ads or Stick Out?

Im not sure what is better, but i personally go for blending, that way the ads look like part of the site in many cases, and less offensive (in the way) to a visitor/user.

Blending can go too far sometimes, but i guess in other cases sticking out ads may work better.

If you have a site with a lot of content, I'd suggest blending.

Same here. I have had success by blending the ads with contents and not sticking out. Of course, it varies depending upon the sites :)

more than a year ago - after hundreds of hrs testing with ten thousands of uv - I moved to a totally new color scheme sticking OUT. as a result I instantly got a 2 digit site wide average ctr and similar eCPM.
now with the global economic crisis and new languages of low income countries added the ctr/ecpm is slightly below 2 digits - site wide.

I have friends who adapted the same scheme and had the similar improve in results.

My advice - UNLESS you are already in or near a 2 digit ctr/ecpm range - SHOW your ads ATF and go color, KNOW the meaning of color and use that meaning effectively.

personally I consider blending as a kind of deceiving, making visitors believe that a link / ad is part of content.
I want the visitors to KNOW that these are ads to allow them to make a conscious choice rather than to accidentally create clicks

This is an interesting question, what I have is an example of a site that has ads sticking out and another that has ads blending in. Nonetheless, I think it's more of right placement of the ads that supersedes the blending that brought about more click conversions.

I couldn't agree more than that :) All my informational sites work perfectly with blending ads.

Sticking out is not the best idea... good luck. You should try both!

I like using googles standard colors. I have blended ads and used different colors and the standard colors have gotten the best response.

I dunno, the DP one is very eye catching. It always makes me look up there every time i come to digital point. Maybe we should ask shawn which is better lol
