So, I have a new website, with a new domain, started 3 months ago. It's indexed by google, and I have been doing SEO by submitting to directories and all that. I have been patiently waiting for PR to break out of 0. Turns out that if I check my domain WITHOUT the www, I have a PR of 2; but if I check the domain WITH the www, it's still 0. I presume it will eventually even out, but can anyone explain what's happening? --A--
Probably because the incoming links are pointing to blah.com instead of www.blah.com so the www.blah doesnt get pagerank.
If you think about it long enough, www is only a subdomain of domain.com which means those are 2 different sites. I forward all my traffic to www.domain.com instead of some being domain.com and some being www.domain.com, that way all my visitors see the same thing and so do search engines. If you don't want www to be a subdomain, then forward all traffic to domain.com and never see www again. there are many sites out there that are for or against www, such as yes-www.org or maybe-www.org or no-www.org.
I'd pick one format either with/without www and do your directory submittals, link exchanges, etc. all using the same format. Consistency is the key, so not to dilute your pr.
