I once bought a domain that I now suppose was blacklisted, as there's no way I can get it into Google's database. So I have 2 questions: What can I do about that? How do I avoid that happening again?
What makes you think it is blacklisted? If it truly was, see Matt Cutts: Getting a banned or expired domain reindexed.
Thanks, I'll look into that! Anyway, I think it is because I got it linked and offered it to SE crawlers but with no results in months. If it's not blacklisted what could be the problem? It was an expired domain, so surely secondhand. I'm about to buy another one, but I noticed that this one is in the archive.org database, the first one wasn't. But I'm not sure this means anything... Thanks minstrel!
Try a site:domain.com query - if there are ANY pages returned, it's not deindexed. Then double check your robots.txt file if you have one. Then double check that you're not blocking a generic agent in .htaccess that might include Googlebot. Or post the URL and we'll have a look.
The domain is http://www.affitti.org No pages indexed, no robots.txt. Actually a weird .htaccess, but I don't know much about that. This is what it looks like: # -FrontPage- IndexIgnore .htaccess */.??* *~ *# */HEADER* */README* */_vti* <Limit GET POST> order deny, allow deny from all allow from all </Limit> <Limit PUT DELETE> order deny, allow deny from all </Limit> AuthName www.affitti.org AuthUserFile /home/affitti/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd AuthGroupFile /home/affitti/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.grp Is that the problem? (I hope so...) Thanks Minstrel! We're a little OT now, maybe the thread should be moved soon?!? PS: OOOPS! It's not working and can't get it back up right now! But it's a long term problem, not recent and therefore not due to the site being f+++++d up!
That does sound like a de-indexed site. The htaccess file is standard for FrontPage - that shouldn't be a problem. I think it's time to follow that link to Matt Cutts article in requesting reinclusion.
Thank you Minstrel, very kind of you for your help! I'll put it back up and try and see what it's like to have it re-indexed. I hope it's not like when someone is kicked out of Google Adsense...
