BlackHatBootcamp.com referrer - spamming to advertise?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by simonspurr, Jul 19, 2008.

I just looked at my stats for one of my site and with only 2 extra visitors a referrer (blackhatbootcamp.com) had referred 441 users. I have never seen or heard anything about this website before so I searched for it in google and there were only like 830 results.
Is this some kind of black hat advertising/referring things that they are somehow doing.
On alexa.com their traffic rank is quickly rising.
Is anyone else like being somehow referred by these guys? What is going on?

    I use cPanel btw

Edit - just checked my other sites - 461 referrals from them on one of my other sites, also referrals on others

Is there anything for me t be worried about?

I'm still confused as to how it says it is my biggest referrer?

It's not - it's false traffic. It can't refer anybody to your site because there is no link to it on the page.

How does it show up in the stats? I dunno, a blackhat trick I guess.

The fact that a number of people on DP have experienced this suggests that he is going through websites in peoples signatures.

Ok, but if it is false than how does it show up? Is it just a bot?

It must be - the whole idea is that you look at your stats and go, What's that? Then you go to check it out... the guy is selling a product...

I hope his technique doesn't catch on too quickly or it will make stats useless ( I saw this in AWSTATS - I don't know if this is the same in Google Analytics)

I saw it too. It seems to only show up in the cpanel of the sites listed in my signature, not my other sites?

Happened to me to today and yesterday - nearly 500 referrals. AWStats didn't count them as visits for me though. Why would you want to buy a product that gave you referrals?

    OOOPS!

    That is my program.

First, I want to apologize to anyone that was offended by the repetitiveness.

500 entries is way too many. It should have been like just 5.

    What Happened?

I was debugging a new feature in the program most of yesterday and I
thought that I was in debug mode, in which case, you would not have seen anything.

    Sorry.

Yes, that's the idea. An attention grabber. Publicity stunt. etc etc. It pulls traffic!

It will only be available to members of the Boot Camp. Membership is limited
to only 25 at this time. Plus, not all members use all of the tools. (I know this
from the other tools that I code and release to my members: KommentKing,
    ExtremeSearchBot, BlogCreator, etc.)

@simon, there is nothing to worry about.

    sorry guys.

Let me correct you... It should have been 0.

What you are doing is flat out referrer spam. And yes, I had 300+ entries in my logs from you as well.

You are using Digital Point as a place to harvest domains to plug into your referrer spam system. That can get you in trouble...

You earned a Red Rep for referrer spamming.

What the hell are u doing, u r acting as if this isn't wrong - u r pulling websites of all those on DP and spamming us to ur website.

Then, on top of that u r advertising your tool that is spamming everyone here and telling us there is limited spots. U also start advertising ur other products.

Can a mod please ban this guy from these forums or something - he comes onto DP to get sites to spam

500 here per domain also, now your domain and IP is firewalled from all my servers.

Kind of pointless exercise, you just piss off a lot of people and wind up banned from half the internet.

But meh, if you want to play ping the server i'm sure i've got enough hardware and IP's to make Hostmonster pull the plug on your box in 5 minutes flat.

I'll give you credit for owning up to the mistake though.
