black hat vs white hat?

can someone explain what the difference is and would you use both types?

 

if you are looking for long term then just look for white hat...

If you have to ask the question then you don't know enough about black hat to make any money anyway.

 

Black hat SEO = unethical methods and may get you banned easily in search engines. Good thing is you can be indexed easily and can get out in sandbox in no time, IMO.
White hat SEO = clean methods in SEO like backlink building, directory submission, and many others.

 

Yes! Further refinement of "directory submission." Watch out for "link farms." Submitting to those is "black hat" and you'll end up in Google Hell for the abomination

 

it's like, black hat is the illegal way of optimizing your site. it's like fooling the search engines. and when caught, you might suffer from penalties.

white hat aside from being long term, it is the ethical way of optimizing your site. as they say, it is a clean method.

 

I would say that black hat is somewhat of the easier way at doing things but if caught, you're website will have a heavy penality. Stuff like pop up screens that you cant close easily, tricking people into click on to a website and it actually redirect them to where YOU want them to go instead of letting them choose, or something that would trick the search engines to make your website rank higher all of a sudden. Those are some examples of black hat. White hat is just doing things the regular way, which is content, content, content. White hat build more towards what the target audience wants to see rather what YOU want them to see.
