If you look at WebSideStory web site.. http://www.websidestory.com/ .. and strip CSS/JavaScript, I see lots of text and links at the bottom. What do you think of this?
This is like hitting axe on your own feet. Search Engines are now wise enough to devalue (even penalize) these websites.
You want to see really bad SEO: Type in "switchblade knives" in google. What comes up as number one is: http://nicnac.net It has actually been there for quite some time, which makes me wonder, is there really any science or consistency with Google???
I suppose this was a rhetorical question Well, a lot of hidden (at least not humanly visible) text... Nothing new from the point of *spammy seo*. You can try to Report a Spam Result
The fact that such a successful company could be doing this is: A. They don't care. B. Google may not give a damn about hidden text - why would they penalize a site with hidden text - it hasn't happened to me or anyone else "I" have met. It looks like crap - but in reality who really is going to visit their site with CSS disabled? And besides that - the text is at the bottom.
That's awesome. Oh the powers of css! It's really the only way to get links to their subpages without confusing visitors and cluttering up their homepage. But yeah, it's a well established site/co. so they can get away with that kinda thing and it works if done correctly.
I think someone in here needs to make a website on switchblade knives. The search count on nichebot is over 15,000 and this site is number one? I may even have to get to work on this myself...
I'm not sure what WebSideStory is doing is necessarily wrong. Those hidden words only show up if you let the page load, then turn off CSS then turn off Javascript (at least, that's how I got it to work on my Firefox). But if you look at the source code, those words aren't there. I even ran it thru SEOchat's spider simulator and they didn't show up there either. Meaning there's a chance Google isn't even seeing those words. But now that I think about it... why go thru the trouble of hiding those words from both spiders AND human eyes? hmm...
