Hi Everyone! In the office we've got a bit of a black hat debate going on! At the moment, we don't really know much about these techniques - we've always concentrated on the good old white hat stuff. However, we're not satisfied!! We are going to be conducting a few black hat tests over the next few months to see which black hat techniques work, if they get banned from Google, and if so, how long it takes to get banned from Google. Methods we are going to research include: cloaking a few techniques for hidden text link spamming ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The reason for doing this is that we are sick of not entirely understanding these methods having to go on other peoples reports of their effectiveness. We are bored of the plethora of jumbled nonsense information about these techniques. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested on hearing the results of our tests then please PM me which techniques you want to know more about. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a steep learning curve for us. Please help us out by pointing us towards any black hat resources that you know of.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a dirty job, we know that. But someone has got to do it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Obviously we are going to be setting up new domains for this, and we are going to be targeting nonsense keywords in orders to genuinely pit the techniques against each other. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- White vs black vs grey - which will win? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to help us out please help us create a list of black hat techniques - PM me or post in thread. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In the pursuit of knowledge - here we go! Thanks Notting
Nice, I know several good black hat method but usually they are also time consuming. So black hat doesn't mean with less effort you'll rank higher. Black hat needs time and hard work as well so it's up to you.
Hi wokaka, Thats interesting. Many people in the office are saying that. Please enlighten us on these techniques. notting
I would be interested in the tests/results. Please PM me. I, have often wondered about hidden text under "floated" menus via CSS. An example with "absolute"... #Menu2 { position:absolute; top:235px; left:20px; width:96px; height:165px; padding:10px; background-color:#6DCED5; border:3px solid #B70100; line-height:17px; voice-family: "\"}\""; voice-family:inherit; } And, would that be a gray or black???
Grey hat ftw! I'd personally say avoid cloaking like the plague and realize that a lot of the activity at Syndik8 is hit and miss (or his and banned). Link spamming can be done in a grey(gray) fashion with very good effect. It's not honest, you'll have to hang up your white hat, but at the moment there's little being done in the Google algorythm (that we know about) to deplete its effectiveness. Google realizes that grey is the way, and that's how they operate their business - "Links should be organic and links should not be bought... unless you're an AdWords user in which case we'll give you preferential position".
For what reason would you want to hide text? That will answer if its black/grey/pink hat or not. Notting good luck with the research but the techniques you mentioned are widley known by the search engines these days, no? The syndk8 forum is a good place to start digging around for some of the latest tricks, although asking what they are outright will only get you flamed on that forum.
i'd also be careful with cloaking...please see the long-term effects, you might NOT be a happy camper once you see google bitchslapped domains of yours with $8 min bids or bans you from AW/AS. So be careful. Or just use on test domains. My $0.02 There are some techniques which are very effective, bot NOT blackhat. Some things are just, REALLY, REALLY dumb. Eg. a few days ago i had a customer who wants to use Affiliate Hijacker for cloaking, eg. present content X on a site of his but wants to let googlebot/adwordsbot see product Y. Imagine you make a site about football, but googlebot would see it as a viagra-site with great QS for "viagra"...etc... why make it so difficult? I always say...dont underestimate Google.
the only good thing in black hat is a quick result it can provide,. but it may give you quick rankings but its not for long,.
Forms of Black Hat: These are the black hat techniques: Spamdexing Content spam - Hidden or invisible text - Gateway pages - Keyword stuffing - Scraper sites - Meta tag stuffing Link Spam - Link farms - Hidden links - Sybil attack - Wiki spam - Spam in blogs - Spam blogs - Page hijacking - Referer log spamming - Buying expired domains - Google bombs Other forms of spamdexing - Mirror sites - URL redirection - Cloaking - Code swapping
Not to sound naive, but wouldn't hidden text only be for ranking higher in search engines? Could you point out or give an example of a "pink hat" or "not"? I never knew hidden text was ok according to the SE's. Unless some java drop down menus are considered "hidden" text??? I'm not well versed in jave. I'm more of a LAMP guy...
Notting, I forgot to add that I would LOVE to hear about your results. Could you PM me when you have them? thanks!
YES please dont forget to post when google links all your BLACK HAT domains to your "white hat" domains and just decides to do away with all your sites LOL
Good luck I think white hat and black hat are pretty much the same they both have their own challenges and difficulties so I really do not think there is a better one, but it is always good to broaden your horizons.
I'm actually just interested to see the results and learn what the types are. Call it "medicinal purposes"... I tried the websites others have listed, one requires a $100 per month fee, the other, I'm waiting on the webmaster to appprove my membership. I never really want to "black hat", but I really dont mind bending the rules on occassion.
