Hi all How long does site "A" need to be pointing a link to site "B" for it to be of value in terms of PR? I had a link from a PR5 page (the only external link) but it was taken down after a few days Thanks
Why do people worry too much about validity? When the link is already removed. It is removed, you lost your PR. Google updates PR internally daily (my guess). Only the toolbar is updated periodically (no one knows for sure, in the past it was usually once per month, and lately once per 3 months, and the visual status was usually about a week old (pages made that same week didnt get PR). When the update is longer than one week ahead, then you dont get PR from that link that is removed.
When you lose a backlink you lose its benefit as soon the page linking to you gets recrawled. everything else, not important
if you lose too many backlinks, you are suspected of spam, usually blog spammers are the ones who lose many links
no one for sure can say how long a link needs to be present on a website to be of any value... the longer the better.
The longer the better only if the linking page is refreshed frequently. otherwise it is an expired vote to that site. JIMO
