So I noticed today that I started receiving an unusually large amount of traffic to my site (www.thecubsbrickyard.com) from Yahoo for the term "Erin Andrews body" - not a term I'm targeting, but I do have an article about Erin Andrews. The article shows up on the second page of results for that term. I've not known second page results on Yahoo to result in hundreds of visits, but I'm not complaining. The strange thing is my article is on the first page on Google. But I get zero traffic from Google for that term. Anyone experienced anything like this before? I'm not really concerned either way, but I'm just trying to better understand how these search engines work.
Google probably has a lot more data centers. So while you see your listing on Google's first page, it might not be there across the country. I got excited when a couple of my sites got onto the first page in Google. When I finally got around to checking the results using a proxy I found that the rankings were only showing up where I live.
I saw that I ranked second in php tutorials on google and php.net was first. I then realised it was because of that personalised results thing google has.
I checked google ratting for Erin Andrews and it's not all that great at 500,000 pages and I also don't see your page running?
Content is king. The topic is interesting about ML Baseball Using instant replay to Oggle Erin Andrews. So you're getting more visits.
Its good to have traffic from search engines. Either it is from Google or Yahoo its good. You are lucky to have such good traffic from yahoo. Make use of it. Good Luck
Don't get too upset as you might find (as you do from time to time) that the traffic from Yahoo could be more profitable per visitor than Google.
What works for yahoo does not works for google. Usually people get main traffic from google but you get visitors from 2nd page. Thats amazing
