SE don't prefer any TLD's... So it is mostly on you what you want.

About these country TLD's I am not pretty sure, but for local searching are important IMO. But for the main 5 TLD's, there shouldn't be any difference.

It probably only depends upon the language for general searches.. how could google know if you wanted a .org or .com unless you somehow specified it?

I'm not sure it matters much for SEO but .com's are better for other reasons. I remember a site that people kept talking about.. everyone would go to the site and say "that's strange" they would aoutmatically go to the .com but the actually site people were talking about was at the .net.

Yeah, a .biz is just going to confuse or lose direct visitors considering .com is now in the vocabulary of most of the american public but uh... .biz is NOT.

Google don't 'prefer' any TLDs, .coms simply seem to rank higher as they tend to be older with better SEO and older more numerous backlinks.

On the subject of country specift TLDs, these are ranked in the local SERPS according to several factors such as the TLD, the location of the host and the location of sites that link to it.

It doesn't make a any difference to the search engines whether a site is a .com or .biz or any other TLD for that matter. However in terms of human recognition, a .com is the best way to go if it's available.

The only domains that are favored and thats mostly due to the means of acquiring these extensions such as .edu and .gov - .org is the easiest to attain that has a slight edge.

No special treatment is given to any TLD.
