BitTorrent Responsible For 40% Of Internet Traffic

A recent analysis of the latest P2P trends wordwide shows that BitTorrent is still the most popular filesharing protocol. BitTorrent traffic is still on the rise and responsible for 50-75% of all P2P traffic and roughly 40% of all Internet traffic.

I actually wonder how much sites like YouTube, MetaCafe, et al contribute because I'd say that more people are aware of those sites than P2P (at least amongst average internet users).

Bittorrent is responsible for 40% of all internet traffic? I find that hard to swallow. I would think that programs like email make up the majority of traffic.

First off a 40% range is friggin huge, I wonder what the margin of error is on this report? Probably something equally huge

Its the source that is screwing with them. WHat they did was probably measure the traffic from university in the United States where bittorrent is huge. Its all a game of making the numbers work for you.

By traffic you mean bandwidth and data transfer ? or number of users ?

It makes sense that bittorrent uses 40% of the internet's bandwidth since it's usually used to exchange large files like movies and computer games while youtube, myspace and e-mail programs like mentioned above use much little bandwidth compared to bittorrent

It's possible. There are days I download 10 or 20 gigs off usenet. Usenet isn't bittorrent, but still.

I used to download lots of stuff, i don't do it anymore...
Curious is, now i've unlimited traffic and i didn't had it in the past.
I guess it's a factor to download or not.

Might be true. I'm pretty sure BitTorrent is about 90% of me and my friends internet traffic.
