Suprisingly I noticed that google indexes Microsoft's website better than Bing!!!! (like MS KBs) On a separate note, I noticed that Bing does collect information via the live toolbar users and this info does go into ranking the website pages (the way Alexa operates). Be sure that you do install the live toolbar too from the PC where you normally browse your websites frequently.
exactly.. they have to keep offering better service.. Every competition has chance.. BING might overtake the number 1 spot..
Bing has certainly increased its share since its launched... from 7.5% to almost 10% in 6 months and has launched loads of new features including Twitter Tweets, wolfram alpha answers, Freebase quick answers, Visual search etc.. all these are not in Google So far.. So its giving Google a tough challange. Partnership with Yahoo will surely give them a good boost and scale to move on..
You would be hard pressed to find that number anywhere. A search engine with less than 8% market share is not any kind of challenge. Dinosaur's mating didn't save the dinosaurs.
http://searchenginewatch.com/3634991 I would find it hard to believe that if Bing and Yahoo merged, it would be good for Microsoft. You can't expect all of the Yahoo numbers to go with Bing, just for the sake of keeping in the percentile. Most of them would probably convert to using Google as Yahoo is a lot like Google, and Google is more established than Bing. Bing's spout of traffic is only going to last so long. Microsoft has NEVER been good at online technologies, and really should just give up. The only thing they've ever had going for them is MSN and Hotmail. That's it, and even that is getting to the point where people are getting fed up with its support and 'updates'. There's several things Bing doesn't have that Google does... 1. Google maps is and always will be the best until someone launches their own satellite and monopolizes the industry... plain and simple. 2. Google adsense and adwords is the largest advertising network out there. The fact that, that is so large is enough to prevent Bing from beating them alone. 3. Google has a fantastic reputation, and people love them. They love how fun the company is, the story behind the companies creation, and the passion that goes into developing new projects. 4. Choice. Google doesn't bad mouth bing. It doesn't attack Yahoo. They respect every other search engine, website, etc. What they did is made a better product, and let it sell itself. Bing is constantly trying to become better by making it seem like Google sucks; a common Microsoft advertising tactic, and a horrid one at that. 5. Bing is owned by Microsoft . There are tons of other reasons Google will always be at the top, those are just the most common.
Dont worry google is always ready for competition and they are always introducing new features. like look at this: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/10/help-us-make-web-better-update-on-rich.html
Bing is better at image searches than google's image search engine. Remember image searching and web searching works differently.
To update this thread to more current events, how do you all feel now that Bing/Yahoo are one and the same? That's about 35% of search market now being served up by Bing.
I get 10 times more visitors from Google than from Yahoo and Bing together, and my ranking at Bing and Yahoo is 10 times better than in Google, I think they have almost no users.
I agree, that same logic applies to my portfolio. I guess I posed the question not so much as what is working in hindsight, but what the future may bring/hold now that the two search engines have merged. Speaking of hindsight: I've noticed monthly patterns over an annual view where I'll get more traffic from Yahoo than Google. But that traffic never converts like Google traffic does.
