In an effort to help drive merchants to Bing Shopping, Microsoft has to make the service free for qualified sellers who want to get their products listed. There is a three step process for merchants to get their products into Bing Shopping, and the first step is to determine your eligibility. Merchants need to have operations based in the Unites States, have an Employer Identification Number, conduct business in U.S. dollars, and not sell restricted items. If a merchant meets these qualifications, then the next step is to download the Bing Shopping program for merchants guide and set up your product feed. Once steps one and two are complete merchants can then apply for the program using the Bing Shopping merchant application form. Microsoft even launched a forum just for Bing Shopping, so merchants can discuss the program and get help if needed. Additionally there was the launch of the Bing for Mobile iPhone app which includes a Shopping section where consumers can track down products, see ratings, and read reviews.

Overall, Bing still has a very small percentage of search market share, so it is unclear if their efforts will impact Google product search. While Bing and Yahoo are merging, it is not clear if products like Bing Shopping will also port over to Yahoo. It is clear that making the Bing Shopping service free is a move to better compete with Google product search, but Microsoft still has a long way to go.
