Bing cached my sit and the description is from DMOZ, not from my meta a tag or on page text.

I don't think its special type of search engine. When i compared results with Google they aren't much good.

I agree it does seem that Bing focuses more on on screen factors for its algorithm. This might actually be more clever than it first appears. Google could not do this as people would game the system by keyword stuffing. However because Google penalise for this, perhaps Bing have reasoned that people will not want to lose their Google traffic and so will be reluctant to game them in this way? Currently webmasters stand to lose more than they gain by trying to manipulate Bing by keyword stuffing.

Of course if Bing manages to overtake Google, or even come close, then the dynamics of this will radically change. There will be a greater incentive to keyword stuff, and they will rapidly need to re think their strategy.

If Bing does take off, both webmasters and the search engines have some very new challenges. 2 powerful search engines running side by side will have to try and second guess each others changing algorithms in order to preserve the integrity of theirs. Webmasters may have to choose which engine they will optimise for, or try and cut a middle line. Interesting times ahead...

I like your analysis. Microsoft will have some time to get their act together for offpage factors.

    Hi Jon,

I really like your insight on the development of search engines. It would be very interesting if Bing was able to grab a significant foothold in search usage. As the way things stand right now, Google provides more relevant and quality results because they focus heavily on off-page optimization factors, preventing the system from being gamed.

If you're looking at it from a searcher's point of view, then most people want relevant and quality results based on what they're searching for. Google also realizes this, which is why they changed their algorithm to reflect that.

While Bing may be relevant, clearly based on on-page optimization, I'm not so sure if the quality is there because you eliminate public opinion, or off-page factors.

Either way, these are interesting times, and I think Microsoft will need to look at both the searcher and site owner variables very closely. Testing will be immense I would imagine.

Probably one of the best things I heard relating to Bing since I've been following it. Great insight....I guess if they start to rank offpage factors more then they just become like Google..so what's the point I guess?

I'm waiting on a SE that is 100% offpage factors (that would be interesting for sure haha)

I think this, to me, is evidence that Big Bully G is starting to quake in their pants :) If Bing does indeed provide inaccurate results and are inferior compared to Google, why even bother pointing out their problems? Cuil had a lot of excitement when it first came out but there was not even a whimper from Google about it....they just didn't bother about Cuil probably because they knew that it wasn't worth their attention.

But Bing actually got the Big Bully G's attention. That has to mean something.

Hey are you sure about this thing?
So you mean after one month of giving good traffic to your site it
then later on you will be getting no more traffic?
No no no, this is not fair.
