I've created a usenet searchengine website.
The script is custom made.
Users are able to search Usenet (binaries) and all post are grouped together. Users are then able to generate NZB files (xml file which they can open/import with grabit/newsleecher etc. etc. It is similar to www.binsearch.info

It has received a steady flow of traffic with out really advertising.
300-400 Unique a day, and sometimes this goes up to 800-1000
(if binsearch is down for example)
Site has been up since October 2006 stats available if needed.

When enough traffic you can also require users to sign-up for this service.

If you put in a little time into this it could grow rapidly.
Haven't uptimized for google adwords yet. But receives about $30~40/mo

Important, this isn't a nzb post forum/board, this is a real search engine with grouping capabilities.

About legalities:
I don't think you have to worry, the site doesn't store any files. not even nzb files. they are created on the fly. Even when a user downloads a nzb file, they still need to get a newsserver account to connect to usenet.

 

could you alter ther code to search posts to any forum? I am looking for a coder to built me a script that users can search any forums and are a able to specify the site.

 

do you mean a forum like "vbulletin" etc. Or are you revering to a newsgroup?
I can provide you with custom scripts.
