Microsoft was in the field of Desktop OS, while Google is in Internet Search. Microsoft fought the server wars and IIS is now quite a dominant player, they also fought the Browser wars, Netscape was eliminated with its share of the pie nearly wipe out. Fire Fox is slowly gaining back though. MSN challenged Google, who will win and who will lose is still hard to say though MSN comes in as the underdog with 10% of the market.

The recent Yahoo merger, the real loser I would feel is Yahoo themselves.

now people are talking about cloud computing where everything comes from the internet. Linux compared to Windows is still crap. However, should the growth of the internet be unstoppable it is possible to open your comp and have the OS run from the internet.

Well it is the first time I heard that you can open your computer and have your OS run from the Internet, where can we get such information?

Bill Gates is not a chicken and not running away from anything. He wants to become a full-time philanthropist which means more to him then money.
I'm tired of those trying to bad mouth Bill Gates.

    He is an idol!

Bill Gates seems like a pretty down to earth guy. From what I hear he wasn't too fond of his status as the richest in the world anyways because he doesn't like the attention. I agree that with all Bill Gates has been through he isn't worried about Google. Maybe Microsoft has it's eyes on Google, but I would imagine Bill Gates might like the idea of some young guys creating a multibillion dollar technology company. Following in his footsteps maybe?

Lol Cinta April, your the kind of person that thinks Microsoft is ´evil´ right? Man, without Microsoft we might not have computers right now!

And does Bill talk trash about Google? Pics / Links or it didn't happen.

Now, go to some Mac forum (I'm just 99.5% sure that your using a Mac) and talk about how great Apple is and how bad/crappy/evil/OMFG ITS CLOSED SOURCE!! Microsoft is.

Actually I never think Microsoft is evil. Microsoft has done a good job with Windows and and gain many approval. However when you look into what Microsoft is doing for the internet, all its attempts to "microsoft" the internet almost fail. The only successful product Microsoft came up with that has competing power in the internet is Internet Explorer. Microsoft products for the internet is so promising "all in one" solution, and you have to pay for some of their products when you can get elsewhere for free. In terms of added value, Microsoft has simply not done enough for the internet.

he did lose to the Big G in terms of competing with their search enginebut i dio not think he is really running from anything. he may just be burnt out. If I was a multi-billionarre like him I do not think I would want to work that hard either

C'mon you guys.. if you had money like Bill Gates does, made a revolution on OS's, became one of the richest people in the world, and is still a living idol to many, I don't think the battle with Google would matter.

He's already done so much. Time to let the younger generation battle it out, don't you think?;)

Google is ruling internet in lots of terms but in real world Microsoft rules.

As Google is going i am sure that in near future it will face a lot of problem as Microsoft..

and then both the companies will loose their present prestigious spots for other companies..

There are some wrong policies from both of these companies which i see can land them in big trouble in next few years and Microsoft is also seen been suffering from one.

If you can buy something then competing it can be really worth something..

If Bill Gates was his old self (the brutal competition killer) he would have wiped out Google from the face of this planet. He became a philanthropist instead and started donating.

You're wrong. Gates retired to work on his philanthropic organization, not because of anything Google related.
