Bill Cosby has put forth the idea of building a slavery museum with contributions from every American of $8.00: Slavery Museum. I think it's a great idea. I have read original accounts from the slave trade era and seen original source material from ships and markets. I have analyzed datasets containing points of departure, numbers, mortality rates among men, women, children. I have seen the underground places of hell where human beings last smelled African air. This is a worthy cause, IMHO. I'd love it if a groundswell of compassion took our land. And while we're at it, a similar groundswell of compassion moving us to remember our part in the destruction of American Indian culture. Just my $0.02. There isn't one in existance?....sounds fairly sad, though. I wouldn't want to revisit it, but I'm sure others might be interested.
I should have been clearer. The museum exists, they are doing a fundraiser to complete it. I didn't even know about it until I read the article. The best 8 bucks I've spent. What appeals to me is the national recognition inherent in such a drive. I am glad for it.
