Keep in mind that this was more of an software upgrade than anything else....google doesn't use "out of the box" kernels....things will probably continue to bounce all over the place once they begin applying new filters and such. They have different teams that work on different things....some work on infrastructure maintenance and upgrades while others work on algos and still others work on filtering mechanics that continuously make our lives hell........ They somehow have to justify what they pay these guys....I think it's more of a game between google coders and SEO companies....wonder how they keep score though?
Either way, a lot of the confusion of late has come from the wide variations in the datacenters. Once Big Daddy completes, at least webmasters will know whether or not to get excited. Also note that while Big Daddy has been proceeding, they have also been patching and tweaking (see Cutts' references to Supplemental and redirection in the quotes above).
Minstrel....I agree with your statement....I'm cautiously optimistic at the moment.....trying to stay in pace with google's updates is a full time job....and SEO isn't even my realm of expertise!! I've done a ton of reading, watching competitor's sites, their placement and use of keywords and keyword density and a whole lot of error correction to stay in the top 25 for KW over the past few months but it's been allot more work than I ever imagined.
If this is how BugDaddy is going to work then you might just as well forget about ever showing up in Google's index. When spam sites takes over their index then nobody will go to Google to try to find anything since all they see is spam sites with scraped content and Amazon.com and pages in http:// myCrappySite.google.com
I think Google knows that. That's part of the reason they go to all this trouble. I'm sure they are very aware that if they don't stay vigilant Microsoft is breathing down their necks... and that sometimes it's easier to get to the top than to stay there.
its nice to know that G is working for their improvements. I agree with this one. competitions have been very apparent, and its really hard to stay on the top of the SEs.
I noticed the usually movement for a dance (I know, google doesn't dance anymore, whatever...) I saw a set of KWP move up to page one for a few days at the beginning of the update, then they moved back to #20 to 22, now yesterday they are both at #8 on all DC's listed at mcdar with only a couple of exceptions. From what I have seen in the past, this will probably be the end of the big movement for this "dance" and they will stick there. I do hope they do stick, cause they are very important for sales.
I noticed some big change when I used all pagerank checker tools and found that all sites, even Google.com has been PR0 when predicted. I hope something better may come cheers, Sxperm
I don't think it's going to stick. I saw a big drop in pages indexed but I'm also seeing a flurry of new pages being added over the past 2 or 3 days.
I'm happy with the update because the majority of my sites were crawled deeper now. Hopefully the crawling will continue
Well BIG G people know what they are up to... and they would be upto somthing very exciting i hope... so that we people here enjoy more of google's challenges and fight hard... Wonderful thread minstrel... thanks Manish
I certainly hope the supplemental thing is going to improve, heh. Google is crawling me like crazy approx avg 40k/day, but I'm still so far down from where I was in terms of indexed pages that it's not even funny. Maybe a little.. heh!
