Big weight loss after update?

I dunno what happened but a little bit before I started seeing those ad_network.php needs updating links on my site my weight has dropped a ton. I used to have 80,999 or 81,999, whatever the highest is, now I have like 4k. Why is it doing this?

    Philip,

the Google API (what is used to check for the number of pages in the G index for your site) is not returning consistent data these days. I have a site with 67,500 in weight that would not validate over 16k for the past two days. Today, it is back. Sometimes that is all that is going on.

I have about 10k pages showing up in Google, down from 30k, that should still bring more weight then 4k?

rtheodorow, what do I put in for the second url?

Is that using the API to check the number of pages?

No, how do I do that? I did a regular search in Google with site:www.must-have-software.net (got about 5k pages) then added must at the end and got like 14k

well, the coop uses the Google API to determine the number of pages in the G index. Long story short, the number displayed on G.com is not accurate.

BTW, I think I have some "must have software" you can review :)

    Submit it to MHS :)

How do I use that API thing? I downloaded it and have everything else that I need. Or does someone wanna check for me with theirs?

The DP keyword tracker in the "track backlinks" area can do it for you with the API. It will keep a history for any sites you put in there as well...pretty cool.

But, I just checked for you, the API reported 103 pages.

Just for comparison, we have a site that reports 14,700 pages on google.com and has 860 reported with the API.

Chances are that the API started returning previous results.

I too have this problem and it can be quite frustrating. I will go from around 21k to 4k within minutes. Usually if I wait about an hour and try to manually revalidate, it will go back to 21k.

Cool. I try revalidating it but the last few days nothing worked. Does the API always do this? Where it goes haywire and shows shitty results?

It only happens occasionally to me. Recently, I've noticed it happening when the SERPs were fluctuating for my keywords. Once the SERPs stabilize, the weight seems to as well.

Google is on crack these days. I think they realized that the SEO community was very close to their algo. Giving away tools that allow people to figure out what they need to do to rank well may not have been the best idea. :)

I wish I had 3500 Unique Visitor Traffic per day.... lol
I am hoping to get there however.
We are on an average of 400 per day.
We had 12K visits last month so let's see what we get this month with the ad network in place. I got validated on the first of the month.

Now as far as the weight thing goes. I has 4k to start, then I immediately revalidated and it went to 6k then I revalidated 1 second later and it went from 6k to 18k. I revalidated a few seconds later and it jumped from 18k to 6k. So there is no waiting an hour for it to happen, I am back up to 18k but it jumps from 6 - 18 constantly.

Man I remember the days when I got excited getting one hit on my site. I think it was the fact that I was like 10. If it wasn't for school and girls (what would life be without girls!) I'd have more time to work on my sites and probably have a high traffic network goin on. But I can't pass up the chance to go out with a few lady friends :) Sometimes I wish I didn't even get into all this computer sh!t lol. O well, pays for the A&F.

Add more pages to your site and you can get more weight. Easiest way is to create a forum and post a lot, easiest page adders.

First of all, *genuine* drop of weights has nothing to do with duplicated web page.

The main culprit is the API. Google knows that SEO people are using this. I don't think Google wants to 'honestly' show them the complete data.

I suggest the coop uses different method besides API, to count the indexed page. Shawn?

Btw, let's not use the API. This is a trap to spy on SEO people.
