I think a domain name is only worth what the person who runs the site is worth. What i mean is a great name for a domain names does nothing. You need a good site and alot of links and work on site all the time.

If you buy site with good Pr it could go down if you do not work on links or site as much as former owner.

Exactly. Branding is where it's at anyway.

But that first example you had is incorrect. It's "Orbitz" not "Orbit Z". The other examples don't make sense because the name Orbitz is pronounced as it would be if it ended in an "S". All one word. :)

But yeah, domain value is truly up to the seller. ;)

Exactly. We all know orbitz is pronounced orbits because they marketed that way. but if i was selling orbitz and you had never heard that before your mind would automatically process ORBIT Z.

Ok, I'm selling mintz.com (example) What your mind process?

What i'm trying to say is:
no matter how good your domain is, what matter is: how good is your marketing campaign.

A difference between a website and a domain name should be distinguished.

    ReadyToGo has a point.

It is a well known fact that to increase the value of a domain you must develop the site.

If you develop into something unique and huge like YouTube you can turn anything into a lot of cash.

Bravo on what would one pay for what they think is a brandable domain. The phrases that come to my mind for domain branding are/is:
"in the eye of the beholder"
"one mans trash, is anothers treasure"
