I had purchased hosting from a DP member {HsHosting} Seems he hasnt been active since late may and my sites all just went offline. The big problem is the backups on my local disk just went down when the fileserver HDD crashed. Is there anyway to recover them from the internet? I lost nearly everything, images, logos, files, css files etc....
yeah i dont know who the datacenter is. thanks guys. one of the sites was a site that held #1 positions on google and yahoo for its keyterms (an upcoming ea/maxis game) its killing me having these offline all day.
You should have backed up your website regularly. Check the whois record of your website through this link -> http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.aspx Network whois record and trace route will tell you about data centre. Hope this will work Good luck Always join knowlegdable web host. Regards, Toniya
thanks for trying, but there is no ip address associated with the sites now... I called the phone number listed on his whois query then reversed the lookup for his address. No one at either number knew who he was.
I have discovered he was hosted at FDCServers.net they are refusing (currently) to give me a backup. I am trying to sort this out as its a direct violation of my right to property.
Always research a company before moving in, and always remember to keep your data backed up (I'm not saying you didn't). I'm sorry to hear about your experience.
They will certainly provide you backup though it is neither your right nor their liability. Please ask them the price and they will help you. Data centre mostly providing backup only if you are ready to pay Good luck. Toniya
Actually the US Constitution and several ammendments protect your right to property. In point of fact if you allow a friend to borrow a TV or couch etc.. and they are evicted you have the right to acquire your property at NO cost. This is much a similar situation with virtual property that is solely owned by me.
You are not a customer of the datacenter the host used and there is also little way they can verify you own the content. In the real world you would not get something you own back unless there is proof you actually own it so same deal applies there as well.
Yeap I doubt that you can have access to the data from the datacenter. The best bet will be archive.org. I did managed to retrieve one of my site once. But it is quite a bit of work.
good news is FDCServers.net is trying to help me contact the owner of the account. If he erased my data then I will bring a civil suit against him for a tort of conversion of my property. I will be checking archive.org thanks guys.
proof is in the whois database. The email address I have been in contact with is the same on the whois info for the the other three domains, also the can verify via paypal that A) i paid hosting bills and B) I have continued access to the account used to pay the bills. Verification can also be down by email correspondence between the host and I during the course of the past few months.
Here's a solution for the future: Pay for a second webhosting company(cheap), along with your main provider. Use a big company with a cheap shared account, solely for backing up your data.
These laws don't help much as you are not directly a customer of data centre. In fact, you will loose a lot in expenditure. It is good that they are ready to help you but mostly data centre ask huge amount to oblige. Good luck. Best regards, Toniya
