Ok, I was out doing some testing, I was in the first 3 pages of the big G for 2 big broad search terms.... I added about 20 links for each term and URL over the last few weeks in directories. All the directories were the usual issue and placed in proper categories, they were deep links and I probably got about 70% of each submitted. Main keyword was used in each title but a varition was done on each, all descriptions were changed 100% between each submission. This was the only linking done for the 2 pages... Both pages were in SERPS for many months, probably over 6 months, was hoping to try and boost the pages from around middle third page to getting upper third or into 2nd page... RESULTS - dropp from 3rd page on each to page 11 and one term not even in the top 20 pages... Any help appreciated...everyone says adding 1 ways cannot hurt, everyone says you can add to many directories without harm, especially ONLY 1 ways, and remember all anchor text and descriptions were different in each submission. all directories had a PR of 1 or more... My site is a PR 5 over 4 years old and pretty trusted IMO, with many major keyword terms ranking in the top 5 pages and many less broad terms in the first page or two... Looking for SEO expert opinion on this, as it seems to me adding even a few PR directory links with natural anchors and descriptions can raise a red flag in a trusted site.
