I have a dedicated server with 1and1. I keep getting this error on my website uploadwiz.com. I think it has some thing to do with the amount of people going on my website. When there is more people accessing my website, this error appears. I've emailed 1and1 and told them but they say they have looked at it and it has fine. It must be their server, I've no idea whats wrong. Please if anyone knows what this could be please tell me, +rep to everyone! ERROR
Intermittent 500 errors are an exception. Usually they are caused by a misconfiguration. Have you looked at your error logs? Since I don't have a clear answer, I am speculating here. It is possible that some error has occurred and you do do have the proper error file or the permissions are wrong so when the script tries to write to it the 500 error happens. I quess a DB error of some sort like exceeded max connections might do the same since you are dealing with a cgi script. Here is a good link on the subject: http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/servererror.shtml Checking you logs is really the first step.
thank you very much Colbyt, I think it must be some thing to do with exceeded max connections. Any way, I'm looking in to this and I have emailed 1and1. cheers +rep you deserve it!
a lot of 500 internal server errors are also caused by dodgy .htaccess files, especially ones that contain rewrite rules.
the .htaccess files are fine, I dont know what it is. If you type 1and1 500 error in Google there are lots of results about this. I don't know if a lot of there servers experiances this. No idea, this is really annoying though.
what page(s) show the error, they appeared to be working ok 2 me :\ just found this > http://ez.no/community/forum/install_configuration/500_internal_server_error & http://ez.no/community/forum/install_configuration/install_on_1and1_servers_php_cgi_perfora_net_db maybe it is of some help?
