Big increase in traffic - Help needed

Traffic has quickly increased the past few days on my blog. Yesterday It got 14k pageviews.

What can I do quickly right now to make the most out of this?

I am already capturing subscribers. I put some adsense units on yesterday which has got me a few quid but I don't think this is best for my blog (rather specific niche)

Can someone have a look at my site and give me some advice? what would you do? maybe nothing?

This traffic is the best I've had yet. Yesterday was 39% bounce rate and 4.21 minutes avg. on page

I'd really appreciate any tips or advice

To see my blog just Google: vandog traveller

I would try not to overdo With ads, that will ruin the user experience...and you should try to increase Your traffic as well.
My suggestion would be to put on some Amazon affilite ads on the site, this could be Things about camping and traveling and that sort of stuff.
This would be more targetet to Your users and have a better chance to make Money, instead of pennies With adsense

Your website looks great. You can maximize revenues from tourism website or agents. You can find lot of them in affiliate junction, commission junction, affiliate window etc. I would also suggest you to apply for ads in buysellads website. It gives monthly ads to good website. Cost of per ad for 1 month is somewhere in the range of $100 to $1500. Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice. I agree about Adsense - I don't like the look of it really, and is only intended to be temporary until I find alternatives.

As for Amazon. I think its great but the only thing that bugs me is that I can only target one country! My traffic is spread out worldwide, although the country with the most is the U.S. All the amazon products will be in dollars and will not be relevant for the rest of my audience.

What would you suggest? I have played with geo location plugins but have found they just don't work well and one just seemed to slow the site down and detect the wrong country.

Geo location plugins are pretty dodgy at best, and they quite often get the countries wrong...at least in my case the few times i have tried it.
And they also slow down the site, as you allready have experienced

The best solution of your audience is from the wide world, how about taking the advice from Naina and get an account with
https://buysellads.com/ and i am sure you can will get advertisers wanting to put their ad on your site. That would be the best solution and
be very targeted towards your customers.

If these options are not looking good for you, then i would go for adsense and place them ads
in the locations i have discribed, please check attachment. This is a good blend betwen showing the ads
and not being to instrusive. I think you will make alot more with these ad placements, your current placement are just a eye sore really and not really that affective.

    Nice website bwt :)

I disagree with you on this one. A niche you're in won't have the predominant effect on what ads AdSense is going to show, rather it will be mostly based on the interests your visitors expressed prior to visiting your blog.

It looks like you're pretty skimpy on displaying AdSense ads. If I were you I'd put one 728x90 right under the search / navigation bar, one 300x600 on the right hand side and one 300x250 between the posts.

And I generally disagree with people who think that somehow AdSense ads look bad on a site or make a site look bad. From my experience 99.9% of the visitors don't care if a site has AdSense IF that site provides them with the information / service they are looking for. Your blog does. So, I'd give AdSense a real chance before trying alternatives (that may or may not work) if I were you. If your traffic keeps growing the way it does you can make some serious dough with AdSense.

I totally agree with qwikad.com. AdSense is not properly understood by many. You can make a lot of extra income with it without actually having to disturb your visitors. The positioning of the units on the site are not that great. Adding the modifications he said will be really good for your site and will increase how much you make. The traffic that you mention is enough to actually give a lot more than just a few quid, as you said. You have to position the Adsense units properly. Then, you can make money by adding more units, without disturbing your visitors. You can put up one more from buysellads on the right hand side. For traffic sites Amazon is not great and should not be added.
After you arrange everything properly, start looking for travel affiliate sites as Naina mentioned but choose only those that are appropriate to what you have to offer. Put up an advertising page on the site with complete details about your current traffic and you will also see that people will come to you to advertise on your site. In fact, most of the money in this industry, as a travel blogger, is made through direct advertising by those interested and through the discounts you will obtain for travelling services.

Thank you very much for the images. Really helpful! Your suggestions of placement totally make sense to me.

One question though, 728x90 ad unit would be 28px too big, right? - my content area is 700px. Does this matter? just a bit of clipping? and also this wouldn't suit for mobile devices would it? maybe I should I look at the new responsive ad unit?

Yeah, I guess I am skimpy. Just being careful really. I really don't want to annoy or loose anyones trust. These seem to be good readers and subscribers!

I'm glad you made this comment about Adsense. I'm going to make some changes as advised.

Good stuff. Thanks for the advice. I have recently been looking at media kits - this is what you are talking about, right? going direct to advertisers makes a lot of sense.

I don't wish to get too caught up with this just yet though. I have a lot of good content to be writing, and also I some fun to be had, like outside and stuff :)

Really thankful for all your advice
