Hi all, Starting from yesterday, I have seen a dramastic drop in number of indexed pages shown via site:www.domain.com command in google. It looks like it is across the board. Can you check your site, and let me know if you are seening the same thing. I have not seen a corresponding drop in traffic, so I am thinking the new site: command is excluding supplamental pages from its count?
You are best served using Google webmaster tools for answers as to what the closest correct view of how Googles sees your site.
Well, how many backlinks do you have? Do you have a lot to help your indexed pages stay indexed and not get dropped?
I'm not sure, I checked earlier few domains, looks fine, your best bet is your google webmaster tools, check your backlnks, also try to search using site:domain.com.
Thanks for the tip. I did check from webmaster tools and the "site:www.domain.com" command reports 20k index pages. Then I type site:www.domain.com into the google search box, and it reports 1200 pages!! (this one used to work as of 2 days ago). The url from webmaster tool is like: http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.domain.com&hl=en The url resulting from typing site:www.domain.com in search box is very long, and I think maybe the logic is broken. Note: I think I will avoid a nervous breakdown now. steve
I still see 1200 pages, but maybe that is because I am in Canada. I tried many time.. but no worries.
