Here are the steps I have taken so far for my bidding directory www.gameallover.com: 1) Getting logo designed as we speak 2) Spent $56 on other bid directories that rank high in google 3) Am going to buy semi-automated directory submission from www.digixmas.com and will submit to all their directories 4) After this I will blog comment on all of these blogs: http://courtneytuttle.com/blogs-that-follow/ 5) Finally I will publish articles on the bid directory and submit them to article directories except with different wording so it is not duplicate content. How would you rate my strategy? Thanks in advance.
imo the first step you are wrong, try to spend $8 to register a new domain, DONT use useless / dropped domain to build bidding web directory.
To be honest, I would tell anyone I care about to not start a bidding directory. At the risk of starting a huge battle on that issue, I think many here would tell you that bidding directories would at least appear to totally represent what Google hates about link sales. Your chosen domain name, Game All Over is somewhat of an unfortunate choice given the limited potential (again, IMHO) of bidding directories. I do however, like the domain name. I think it would make for a great directory for either the gambling industry (lots of money to be made from submissions but you have to dance around PayPal and no Adsense options) or a directory about video game systems, online games, etc. You would be competing in a tough market but I think the long-term prospects of success would be much brighter. As to your marketing strategy you left off #6 Continue submitting to other directories and gaining backlinks. I wish you luck with your new site whichever way you go.
A niche directory or even a flat fee directory would be a better way to do. As far as marketing, if you're set on a bidding directory it's the same as any site. make sure everyone in your niche is aware of it.
with the existance of too many Bidding directories i find it hard to reserve a good posistion between the master sites
Thanks for your suggestions however I have decided to keep it as a bidding directory. I have now spent close to $100 on other bidding directories and am listed on many PR4 and PR3 pages. I have someone who is manually submitting to 1000 directories and I am going to start blog commenting the list I mentioned. I will also write a few articles to put on the site tonight.
There is only one thing worse than making a mistake. And that continuing to make the same mistake when you know about it, $100 is nothing compared to the time and energy you will spend moving forward,
The best thing you could do is convert to a standard directory script as soon as possible. Bidding directories are a flawed concept with all sorts of problems.
I would have to say that you've improved already. Like Obelia said, I would advise against a bid directory. The domain now seems to suit the niche which is good. Make sure your directory is content rich with articles and listed sites.
The gaming industry is pretty limited. I realized that a while ago. I've been promoting GamingType.com until now and almost no revenue from it (like 50$ totally). I dare to say it's one of the leaders in the gaming-related paid links market. Taking another leader for example, ArcadeForce which is certainly better then GamingType from all points of view, still has very few submissions. My point: Don't invest much in a gaming directory, it won't return.
