Bidding directories

    Are they generally better for link development than normal directories? Are they ususally worth it?

    in a bidding directory are you bound to get the homepage appearance(depends)
    so this helps your site. Homepage gets more hits than others(agree or not). So if you are in a quality bidding directory and in the home page or atleast the first page of your category, beats a listing in a general directory listed in the deepest category as featured.

    these bidding directories can turn into link farms when it has a few dozen sites, less and less PR will be passed to you so its not that great after a while
