Bidding Directories Infested by Gambling Websites

Discussion in 'Directories' started by vicdigi, Dec 10, 2007.

It is a great shame that Bidding Directories have become infested by gambling and casino websites.

I have seen some of the better quality bidding directories (will not name them) that have been around for a while now have almost all of their top ten bids on the homepage become casino and gambling websites.

As a rule, we only allow 2 gambling sites to get on our homepage at any one time. Also, we will never allow a gambling website to become a top bidder.

Because we can, we will reject as and when we require this to be done as to not have such sites take over our bidding directory and become a gambling directory.

Very good practice. I never allowed them on zorg links. I dont mind the review sites much, but the casinos themselves are bad.

I have spoken to the likes of Amit N and Radu and they still alllow them on their bid directories. Im quite disappointed to see when they approve them they dont even make the effort to rewrite the titles or descriptions. All i see is "casino online" and useless stuff like that. They are just paying lots to bid directories hoping they allow nice keywords like that.

I don't understand whats so shameful about Gambling/Casino sites? Are gambling/casino sites some sort of crime? If you don't like it, don't approve it. Stay off it!

But you got no right to criticize gambling. Its a form of business and every type of business when done legally must be respected.

If its about keyword spamming, well directory owner aren't far behind. They just need a opportunity to add keywords like Free Web Directory, Web Directory, Paid Directory to their submission.

One, and let me make this clear - I got the right to criticise anything as and when I please. That is the beauty of freedom and that's how I live.

Two, In reply to all the above, Nothing of the sort. Plus, I also think you need to read what has been written. Content for bidding directories is oftentimes written / produced by the submitter, ie such as gambling websites. I will not have our sites overridden by such sites.

Do I want my sites to be infested purely by gambling websites? Hell NO. It is not a gambling directory that is being run and neither will I let the directory be run by gambling websites.

As stated, they are welcomed by all means but not to the effect where they will take over.

Want to go again, what else?

Whats even more funny is the bidding directories will actually themselves fall into gambling genre :). Cause people gamble with money to stay on the top.

There isn't anything personal against you.

Here, firstly when you accept gambling sites its clear indication to a gambling site submitter that you accept gambling sites. So whoever they are feel ok lets submit gambling sites, since:

    1. A lot of sites don't accept gambling sites.

    2. A lot of them are totally against gambling.

    3. A lot fear paypal and hence don't accept gambling.

So when such submitters see a site with even one gambling link in it, its common sense that more gambling sites would come in.

Your notification posted in the opening post should be in your site and not here if you are so dead against casino sites. Why accept them in the first place lol, funny post I would say and funny rules.

You are contradicting yourself here, or maybe you contradict us.

Either way, we accept gambling sites but, and as stated, not to the point where they overtake our bidding directory.

I think that is plain and fairly straight forward. As for the guidelines, I might just take that up and add it to our site.

Most bidding directories I've looked at almost always have only front page/top bids from other directories. Why is that not allowing one industry to take over your site?

You made the decision to allow gambling sites in your directory. While not necessarily a predictable outcome, why wouldn't they participate in your directory like any other bidder? It could just as easily be those lotions and potions enhancements sites, pornography, or other sites your find undesirable - once you accept them - they are in and free to fully participate in you website.

It seems to me you want both your cake and to eat it too. You are willing to take their money for internal listings but not the front page?

I would suggest to any bidding directory owner to consider the potential of a bidding war in any category to launch that category to monopolize the front page. I would also seriously consider any policy that says Listing A is OK to be on the front page, but we can only have 2 from your category, (well, uhm, you see, we really don't like your industry, but are more than willing to take your money) so that even though you have the 3rd highest bid on our site, you won't be on the front page. Seems like the owner of such a penalized site would have a perfect reason to demand a full refund. Tread carefully here folks before making rash decisions on this issue as it may come back to bite you.

Your TOS is a contract, be very careful before you default on it and leave yourself open for legal problems or a sudden onslaught of customers demanding full refunds.

And most directories that don't accept gambling links, are overrun by what on their homepage? Other bidding directories? nice....... Making our directories link farms is ok, but approving gambling sites is not ok?

Your choice. Approve or disapprove all you want but don't come here telling everyone how to run our directories.

You have the right to your opinions but I think you are questioning the quality of the directories who allow the casinos to take over homepage. If a company wants to pay then they should be allowed to bid once you open your doors to a niche market.Online casino portals for the most part are in existence to protect honest players from rogue casinos.
I made a catagory on luxaco and named it Gambling is not a sin becaue i am sick to death of crap comments like this one in reference to Gambling .

I think you'll find nobody is telling anybody how to run their directories.

This is the procedure we take and, will stick to it.

Any directory owner has the right to do what they please with their directory. To accept or reject websites to keep clean their very own directory.

There is no legal concern their to reject a website and give a full refund as would be the case.

However, and as stated, I do agree to adding the relevant info to the guidelines.

I am not accepting gambuling in my directory in my opinion nothing wrong with it, but if you accepting one, not the other thats not fair though.

Nicely pointed by aspidov, but maybe words gets uncaring at the end.

    Best of luck.

You are correct that there is no legal concern over accepting or not accepting. But, once you accept a site and take their money you can't say 1 site can partake of front page privileges and one can not simply based on their site's topic. I do believe the penalized site would then have a valid complaint against the directory owner.

Yes you have the right to criticise but that does not make it right.

I do not see your arguement or concern at all, you have chosen a way to submit casino sites to your directory, ( based on raferty's rules ) that suits you, thats your choice, others have chosen to accept them without changing rules every minute, others do not accept them at all.

Each Dir owner has these choices and none are better nor worse than any other.

It could be criticised that your methods of denying some entries based on numbers already in the top 10 as an unfair and unbalanced submission criteria ( and i think many would as it is a stupid criteria that is very unfair on a level playing field ) but we dont, as thats your choice.

Imagine if you submitted your bid directory to me and i sent back sorry / rejected, and when you asked for an explanation, it came back " well we have 2 bid directories so we rejected yours " you would have to agree that was a stupid rule.

and yes that was my freedom of speech above :)

I'm begining to like the gambling sites at the moment especially now gambling has been made "more legal" in the UK. Is it bad to have a gambling category in a directory? the only people who would click it are people that are interested...... ??
