yesterday I received an email that was supposedly sent by Bank of America . The page is titled "MyFraudProtection" and states that the Bank is updating their security against unauthorized access. It requests the reader to click on to a link site to "activate and secure" you (sic) online banking...".

This message has all the earmarks of a phishing scam. It is not directed to the reader by name but instead begins "Dear Valued Online Banking Customer. (I don't even have an account with Bank of America"!) . It conveys a sense of urgency (The title is "Bank of America Alert: Online Banking Upgrade (Update Your Account Within Next 96hours [sic])". Further, as the preceding quotes show, it also is poorly edited and has grammatical errors.

What's truly scary is how unsuspecting can be taken in by this "announcement". The message looks very authentic, complete with the BofA logo and a "Total Security" Sticker.

I have already reported this scam to Bank of America. But please spread the word. I don't know how old this particuar fraud is but, let's do what we can to stop it before it goes any further.
