I'm honestly not the biggest fan of hostgator anymore
but I was with hostgator for a year and had no troubles until recently

it's just the customer support that sucks (no offense hostgator, but I've talked to some douches from your support)

so my vote, for shared hosting, is hostgator

I have some sites with hostgator and they work great, sry your having trouble just email with a new email and give you domain on main account. They will reply most likely.

wow hostgator you're really good to come and talk to these people, and then to offer $100 if you're proved wrong! I've never actually used your company and I don't really need to but good going :).

All of these hosts are fine for shared hosting if your requirements are small. If your site starts getting more than 10,000 - 15,000 page views per day expect trouble from all of these.

Shared hosting solutions promise bandwidth etc they never intend to provide if actually required. 99 out of 100 websites will not use 1% of the resources promised. The 1 out of 100 sites that does start using a fair chunk of the resources promised gets burned because that's only 1 dissatisfied customer while all the other 99 are happy.

Hostgator and the others are fine for small hosting but if your site gets big you'll need a dedicated server or VPS. Slicehost, ThePlanet, and EC2 are good.

Don't worry about it until its an issue but have a contingency plan. Back your sites up to your home computer hard disk daily once your site starts getting big so you can quickly move it to a new dedicated account if the situation becomes necessary.

ThePlanet.com is the best company for dedicated servers.

Meth do you have a ticket number I can review?

Most of the problems are from our live chat techs which our usually the trainees. When they don't know something they ask you to put a ticket in which upsets a lot of people.

That is a pretty sad statement about shared hosting in general, you are unhappy with them but still recommend them?

Why can't you manage to get few experts on technical live chat, else shut-down this live chat feature if you want your clients to mail you for their issues.

thanks for the heads up on that. i was actually looking at purchasing from them the other day but opted for another company. their support response times were very slow.

    Yeah
they done me good for a year
I've been in the website business for 3 years now(going on 4), and hostgator is the only place that I've stayed with for a year

I've tried a lot of webhosts, and hostgator was the only one that gave a decent download speed, good uptime and a decent price

it's just some of the technical support are... well.... retards.... or huge trolls?

    oh no, please don't

every 10 seconds someone on my forums would complain about a database errror, it always lost the connection... or failed to connect to the database server

servage, good for non-database sites but I wouldn't touch them if I wanted to host a site with a database
